Ezekwesili, educationist, UN equate Nigerian children poor condition with other kids

Diverse of intellectuals have expressed on how Nigerian child have been at disadvantage due to poor basic education standards compounded by lack of electric power supply, compare to others kids around the world.

However, the Former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, Executive Secretary Universal Basic Education, Hamid Bobboyi, and Humanitarian Coordinator, United Nations Resident Representative (UNDP), Edward Kallon, urged the Federal Government to eliminate impediments attached to fundamental right of Nigerian child to quality education.

At 2017 Wole Soyinka Media Lecture Series and launch of Regulators Monitoring Programme (REMOP), held in Abuja during last week, they also called proactive measure that could make life meaningful for every Nigerians kids irrespective of background and ethnic group

Bobboyi, who was lead speaker at the event, noted that part of problems bedeviling success of basic education in Nigeria was absence of accurate and current research-based data to enable the government capture relevant statistics like that of out-of-school children, teacher-students ratio and students-classroom information, across the country.

He lamented low compliance of states in paying their counterpart funds to access matching grants from UBEC, juts as he expressed worried that states would continue to thwart basic education drive if they fail to draw medium term action plan to guide their implementation of the programme.
