Diezani Alison-Madueke, the former strong woman of Nigeria’s oil sector, has a dark cloud of money laundering indictments over her but she’s not afraid of going to jail.

In an audio recording obtained by investigators, Alison-Madueke was furious on the apparent sloppiness of her laundering aides, Kola Aluko and Jide Omokore. She was livid against the two for buying up luxurious properties that could be traceable to her. Through their companies under the name of “Atlantic”, Aluko and Omokore enabled the former Minister to divert ridiculous sums of money running into multi millions of dollars.



Though it is not certain where or when the audio was recorded, she is not afraid that the full extent of their murky dealings will be revealed, claiming that she “will be happy to escort all of you to jail along with myself. I said, in fact, you’ll be shocked by what I will do. Because when it comes to that, I will come out and tell the Nigerian people this is what happened”, according to Premium Times.

Alison-Madueke probably feels short-changed by both men. Feeling betrayed, she complained about the inferior cost of furniture which did not sum up to $4m. She adds that she “will come out openly and say it so that they can judge me openly. And then all of us go and sit on the gate”.

With the evidence being curated, there is a significant possibility that Alison-Madueke may face jail term if the US Department of Justice should make a successful case against her. Her readiness to tell all that transpired would appear to be an admission of guilt already.

Other oil scandals involving Mohammed Adoke and her former boss Goodluck Jonathan would add to the pressure that she could be prosecuted but that may also be the source of consolation that, whatever happens, she would not be the only big name to be taken down by the foreign authorities.

Former President Jonathan’s wife, Dame Patience, also faces her own troubles. They may not get to share cells but would that be another source of comfort for Diezani?
