Here, this article discusses brief history of western education in education. We are aware of our history  and we know we were once ruled by the colonial masters. The western education were brought by the colonial maters, they felt we needed the education in order to come out of the shadows of our culture. Although, before the colonial masters came, Nigeria which is populated by so many cultures and beliefs had ways in which they educate themselves and their children.

The colonial came and made sure we learn their foreign ways. It was a way of bringing us together because we have many languages In our country. With the introduction of English language, we could communicate with ourselves and even our foreign masters.

Western education did not gain full recognition until the 20th century. The former colonial masters, the British commerce and the Christian mission were all involved in making sure western education survived. Many parents refused to release their female children to learn, only the male were sent to schools

The first standard school was founded by Rev. father Golmez and was established in 1843, it was called nusery of infant church located in badagry. After a while it was renamed St.thomas Anglican nusery and Primary school. Along the line hosts of ohers schools came into the limelight like CMS grammer school which happens to be the first established secondary school, baptist academy and so on.

Nigeria has come to embrace western education and we now happen to be among the best set of educated people in the world. Even after the foreign masters had gone, we still go abroad their country to gain more knowledge.
