HBeAg- Negative HbeAb- Positive HbsAg- Positive HBCore IgM- Negative Anti HCV- Negative Op. You just did a 5 panel test for hepatitis and it is positive. HbsAg positive-known as hepatitis B surface antigen. It is the earliest indicator of an acute infection but can still be present in the blood of chronically infected persons. HbCore IgM Negative-known as hepatitis B core antibody.it indicates an acute infection if positive. But in your case it is negative, meaning you have a chronic hepatitis B infection. HbeAb positive- also known as hepatitis B core antibody.except you made a mistake in typing,it is contradictory. You can't be positive and negative at the same.e stands for core, ab or IgM stands for antibody, Age stands for antigen. HBeAg Negative- This stands for infectivity and you can't infect others since it is negative. Anti HCV negative-it means you are hepatitis C negative From this tests. You have hepatitis B infection and it a chronic type.Meaning you have had it for a long time. I am a doctor with a health blog. Sorry I'm late to the discussion - I saw this post just this morning. Also, I found your case interesting and unusual and had to look it up in the books. This report indicates infection with Hepatitis B (HbsAg +). It is not acute ie patient had been infected for a while(IgM-) There is a successful immune reaction and clearing of the vital core antigen (HBeAg- and HbeAb+). Hence the patient is not infective and is unlikely to develop chronic hepatitis. Hepatitis C infection is not present. I suggest you repeat the test in six months and do a liver function test (LFT) as well. You should also screen for other STDs immediately. See a physician for expert advice and treatment. Is it possible to have chronic Hepatitis and not be infective ? Yes |

IamaNigerianGuy:Thank you very much sir, i really appreciate this, may God continue to bless you...you have really made it easier to understand sir Well, I have done the liver test and was told to come for the result on thursday, but since am not acute or chronic at the same time, does that mean i should be watchful of my diet from now till whenever i repeat the test probably 6 months from now.. Thank you as i anticipate your response |

monifash: You are 'chronically infected' in the sense that this is not a recent infection and you have had it for a while. You however do not have chronic Hepatitis B which is a dangerous and life threatening illness that can be passed on (your antibody levels are high and the HBeAg is undetected) so that is good news. Hepatitis is common in Africa and Asia. Diet does not play any role in your case. You can eat anything you like. Just see a good specialist physician who will outline a good management plan if you require it and you will be ok. |
