Making A Choice

Joshua 24:15
“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

When there is a freedom to choose, what do you chose? Is it Life or death? We are in the world of freedom, whereby everyone chose as he or she pleases. Therefore, why do we need to make a choice?

(1) If you don’t make choice you remain stagnant and experience no progress.

(2) Your choice will tell people who you are.

(3) Your choice will show the limit you can go.

Let me tell you a story of a young lady. In the late 70s, her father sent her to school but later on, after finishing school, she came back home saying to her father that she has decided to marry a driver. There is no word of persuasion that was able to change her choice and consequently she got married to the man she wanted. Years later, her now husband decided to have a second and the third wife after her. Eventually, she was relegated to the back seat in the home.

One day, she was pounding yam with one of her husband’s wife and she started lamenting and complaining bitterly about the situation. She was regretting her decision not to go to school but instead, marry a driver. Brethren, it was too late for her as it was an irreversible decision.

Do you just make choices without thinking or you think deeply and understand the choices you are making to know how the choice you are making will affect you, because the choice may not affect you alone but may affect the Church, Family, Friends, City, State, Nation even the whole World! The choice Eve made to accept the forbidden fruit from the serpent is what we still suffer the consequences till now. In Gen.3:15-19, Sarah’s choice to give her maid to Abraham is the consequences of the Arab world we are facing till this day! That choice you want to make, have you considered it very well?

Your desire to go to school is a choice ; you wanting to marry is a choice; you wanting to travel is a choice. Other choices include wanting to learn a trade, wanting to have children, wanting to serve God… it is all a choice. For you not to make a choice is a choice not to make a choice! The associations you belong to is your choice which can either promote or ruin you.

In making choices, one thing is paramount : that there is always a negative or positive corollary to every choice you make. Therefore, think deeply and make a right choice.

Deut.30:19 “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live”

Abraham chose to take Lot with him Gen 12:4
Job made a choice not to look after a maid. Job 31:1
Joseph chose not to have sex with his master’s wife Gen. 39:7-9
Daniel chose not to have the king delicacies Dan.1:8
The three Hebrew chose not to bow to the graven images. Dan.3:16-18
Elisha chose to follow the God of Elijah until he received his portion. 2 Kings 2: 2; 11-15
Gehazi chose to take gift from Naaman, this choice not only affect him but the family.
II King.5:21-22
Akan chose to steal from the camp the consequences was so grievous. Joshua 7: 21
Reuben chooses to have illicit relationship with his father’s wife and was cursed Gen. 35:22; 49:3-4
Abraham choice of obedience made God to pronounce blessing not upon him alone but unto his children. Gen.22:16-18
Rehab chooses to save the children of God from been embarrassed. Joshua 2:4-6

Questions to ask yourself :

Are you here because you want to serve God or you are here to make up a number?
Are you here to socialize with people or you are here to associate yourself with God?

Joseph choice to suffer because of righteousness made him end up as a Prime Minister in Egypt (Gen.412:38-42);
Gehazi choice made him and his generation pronounced a leper (II King.5:26-27);
Akan / Achan choice brought a sudden death upon himself and his family (Joshua. 7:24-26);
the harlot Rahab was saved because she walked with the people of God (Joshua.6:25).
What choice are you making in your heart? Choice will determine your altitude; it will determine your breath and length. Your choices will determines everything about you.

Consider this :

o It is only when you make a right choice that everything that you have lost will be restored unto you.
o Job choice not to sin against God made him to be restored back twice of what he lost. Job. 42:12-17.
o The choice of Samson to marry Delilah terminated or ruined his office as a judge before the appointed time of God. Judges16: 21-31
o Ruth choice made her to become the great grandmother of the Lord Jesus Christ. Ruth. 4:16-22
o Brethren, let me tell you that the choice you make is your power, your wealth, your strength and your height and also remember that your choice can bring you to grave. Therefore, make the right choice so that you can live.
