Re: Call for impeachment of Buhari

The attention of the Abia State House of Assembly has been drawn to a publication by one Mr. Demian Ifeanyi Igbokwe, wherein the said Demian accused the Majority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly Engr. Chinedum Orji of moving on the floor of the House that President Buhari be impeached by the National Assembly.

Ordinarily, we would not dignify a busybody with a reply given that his original intent is an indirect motive which is garnished in malice. We are constrained to set the records straight in other to correct the impression that members of the 6th Abia House are bunch of irresponsible and insensitive persons who only try to be clever by half. Any person who understands the workings of legislative business would know that a Majority Leader represents the conscience of the House. His motions set the stage or give an imprimatur to the issues on the order paper. Attacking him in any guise is attacking the House.

1. The House commenced vacation on the 12th of July and would not have possibly entertained a motion of any kind on the 17th of July as alleged by Demian.

2. It smacks of gross irresponsibility, wickedness, malice, senselessness, irresponsiveness, tomfoolery, ineptitude, baseless grandstanding and ulterior motive for any person to rope the Abia House of Assembly in a show of disdain for MR. PRESIDENT

3. From the 11th of June 2015 when the 6th Abia House was inaugurated till 12th of July 2017 that it commenced its last recess, never a time, under any guise, had the House mentioned either by passing or in full; issues regarding the President's health.

4. We are knowledgable enough to know our limits and bounds as spelt out in the 1999 Constititon of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is against this backdrop that we mind our business and remain committed to our Legislative Road Map. We wouldn't therefore be reminding our brother colleagues at the National Assembly of any of their duties.

5. We remain minded by the collective needs of Abians and have demonstrated this through obliging them quality legislative functions.

6. The 6th House is unreservedly committed to a peaceful and United Nigeria. We, therefore, within the confines of our powers, do everything to make that happen, including praying for the overall wellbeing of all leaders and people of Nigeria.

7. We view any attempt to put the House into a collision course with either the President or the National Assembly as damaging meddlesomeness.

8. Members of the 6th House led by the brilliant Rt. Hon. Barr. Chikwendu Kalu would not subscribe to giving attention to infantile issues as contemplating a motion on impeaching the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The thought alone would make them look stupid as it would amount to overreaching themselves.

It is important we warn Demian and such others who are determined to truncate the peace in our dear State or to peach the House against the Federal Government of Nigeria to desist forthwith. We will assume this as a willful affront on our collective progress as a people and must do everything legally possible to resist it.

The votes and proceedings of the Abia State House of Assembly are accessible for public scrutiny. We have records of verbatim reports which could be accessed also. Members of the public who have any iota of doubt or wish to make any valid enquiry are free to visit the Assembly complex for clarifications.

Should Demian Ifeanyi Igbokwe and or his cohorts continue to address the House in such repugnant manner, we would be forced to set in motion the full force of the law against them, primarily to get justice.

Rt. Hon. Cosmos Ndukwe Ph.D
Deputy Speaker
Chairman, Media and Publicity
