Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Loans and Local debts, Senator Shehu Sani has dissociated the people of Kaduna Central Senatorial district, which he represents, from Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s criticism of late Ahmadu Bello, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Nnamdi Azikiwe.

In a video which was obtained by DAILY POST in Abuja on Friday, it showed the governor of Kaduna at a public function lashing at some founding fathers for not being committed to the unity of Nigeria.

He said, “our founding fathers maintained the regions, maintained divisions, because it benefited them politically.

“I know it is not politically correct to say that Ahmadu Bello, Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chief Obafemi Awolowo did something wrong, but they did.

“They did not work hard enough to build a nation, they maintained what they found, and benefited politically from it.”

In a swift response on his Facebook, the lawmaker posited that El’Rufai had demeaned and uttered innuendos against those who worked hard to put the nation together.

“On behalf of myself and the good people of Kaduna central, the very district where the late Sardauna of Sokoto and the Premier of Northern Nigeria lived, served and was cruelly murdered by mutinous soldiers, I wish to unreservedly disassociate the good people of Kaduna Central from any demeaning utterances or denigrating innuendos by any person or group of persons against the Sardauna or any of the founding fathers of Nigeria.

“Sir Ahmadu Bello lived for his people and was murdered for his people, his principles; and we appreciate his exceptional, outstanding service and sacrifice to the north and to Nigeria.

“We equally also wholeheartedly appreciate the sacrifice and service of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and late Owelle of Onitsha, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe.

“They fought for our freedom and laid the foundation for our nationhood.

“Kaduna city, Kaduna central and I believe the entire people of kaduna state, the north and Nigeria remain ever grateful.”

Shehu sani is talking like a sychophant. Thats the problem with our political elite; instead of joining minds and forces with one another to find solution for the country, they would rather bury their head in the sand. Must you mine political capital out of everything. Everything Ahmadu bello did is on record. It was North first, and Nigeria 2nd. He appeared to be disagreeing with El rufai, but still agreed in the end.

Awolowo too was the same thing. They both disagreed in the concept of one Nigeria. Awolowo famously stated that Nigeria was a mere geographic expression. "There are no Nigerians in the sense of the French, the English...". Ahmadu bello rejected the British offer of independence in 1956, that the north was not yet ready with its personnel, and was not ready to use other qualified Nigerians to run its government. Who is fooling who?

It was only ZIK who espoused not even a pan-Nigerian, but Pan-African idealism. But the tragedy of ZIK was that he was not fanatically resolute in his idealism and retreated from time to time into ethnic politics when confronted with the ethnic chauvinism of his two compatriots above.

El-rufai is intelligent, when he can remove his mind from bigotry.

Zik was the only leader that did his best to unite Nigerians but ahmadu Bello ad co destroyed the unity.
