FCT Natives Declare Support For United Nigeria

Natives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the auspices of Original Inhabitants Development Association (OIDA) have declared their support for a united Nigeria, based on proper devolution of governmental powers, rather than dismemberment of the nation as canvassed by separatist groups calling for secession or expulsion.
The natives however warned that should the country be split into groups, they will seek an independent status, by asking the United Nations to govern the 8,000sq kilometres territory through a transitional arrangement until it can become an autonomous city-state with socio-political and economic sovereignty.
In a statement signed by the president of OIDA, Pastor Danladi Jeji and made available to LEADERSHIP, the natives also declared support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, but call for more devolution of powers to FCT and the state governments.
The statement explained that the resolutions are the outcome of an executive meeting held at the weekend, where members of its leadership and chiefdom representatives debated the state of the nation.
The statement also advised any region or individuals hoping to annex or forcefully claim Abuja in the case of a Nigerian separation to immediately discard such notions.
“We are minorities consisting of nine tribes and bourgeoning residents who have a right to self-determination hence none of the majority regions or ethnicities should think that we will go with them.
We urge more peace and unity at the moment but should the Nigerian federation be dissolved, we shall have no choice than to seek an independent status from the northern or southern groups agitating for separate countries at the moment.”
The group revealed that it is set to organize a pan-FCT meeting of all elected and non-elected officials, traditional rulers, women, youth and civil society groups to bring out a position paper on the recent agitations for restructuring of Nigeria.
