In a major upset for the clamour for restructuring, the Senate Wednesday rejected the constitution alteration bill seeking the devolution of powers that would have moved some items from the bloated Exclusive List in the 1999 Constitution to the Concurrent List, which would have given more powers to the states.
The Land Use Act and affirmative action bills also suffered defeats in the upper legislative chamber during the electronic voting on the 33 bills presented to amend the 1999 Constitution.

Ohanaeze said in a statement signed by its President-General, Chief John Nnia Nwodo that the National Assembly should have taken counsel by preparing the framework for a national conference to discuss the national question. “The barrage of voices in this country lately shows clearly that majority of Nigerians are desirous of the country running a true federal system and one expected the NASS to have appreciated this in all their actions, especially in constitutional amendment.

Atiku said. “It was an important vote, and I’m shocked by some so-called progressives’ visceral and cynical opposition to restructuring.” Atiku decried the reluctance of democratically elected lawmakers to remove the insidious structural impediments to development, which decades of military rule had foisted upon the nation.

Asking NASS that is dominated by Hausas to agree with restructuring is like asking them to dig their own grave.

Let me see the iddiotss that will criticize Nnamdi Kanu again.

If you go ahead with restructuring, the NASS will become irrelevant and this will affect the juice these NASS members are enjoying at the moment.

Don't expect restructuring, reorganization, devolution of powers, reorientation, or revocation of the current system of government from those legislooters.

It will take a revolutionary drive to cause the needed changes in Nigeria.

But the election did not also indicate that their south counterpart were interested in any restructuring.
