The minister of education, Malam Adamu Adamu, said on Tuesday, August 1, that three of four new universities to be built by the federal government were for the Army, Navy and Maritime. According to Adamu, the projects were kicking off soon.

Daily Trust reported that the announcement was made at the Progressive Governors Forum on Policy Synergy held in Birnin Kebbi.

He also explained that the setting up of the universities was in line with the policy of the present administration to boost education in all spheres.

However, he said that the administration needed N4.2 trillion to fund the country’s education sector, and appealed to state governments to pay their counterpart funds to access their funds.

A Naval Academy/University? If so,good idea. The first since the advent of this government. Whoever came up with this must be the most brilliant man in this entire administration. I have spent a large chunk of my life wondering why Nigeria has just one military academy and why we don't have a naval academy like the one the US has in Annapolis or the ones in Russia. You don't just bunch everything in the NDA. A Naval University is a fantastic idea. Let's hope it goes ahead whether the APC stays or goes.

What the hell.. You guys should establish more job opportunities. Those who have graduated are yet to get a job and what is our beloved govt doing? Creating more universities. I think the main purpose of university was to keep youths off the street. Quote me if I'm wrong.

All these people talking about old ones being underfunded, you are not totally correct.

Many of these universities are actually provided enough funds. But you'll see their VC's and other people in the Senate diverting money from intended projects to their pockets.

There is one university in particular that I know. The former VC had been working on some projects, though they were moving slowly. As the new VC came, he abandoned all those ones and started his own projects.
If things like this are happening, how do you expect the universities to have a proper standard?

The half baked ones we have are not enough.. Please create more substandard universities to produce more half baked graduates, universities then becomes underfunded and ASUU will go on strike, universities will go the pact of our great lautech. Our students will now stay at home for nine months. Some will look up to hushpuppi to become him and our ladies will continue to slay their life away and become a future babymama with the baby flown out to study political science, the babies will come back to Nigeria to lead and make another halfbaked law and propositions like build more schools or corruption is not stealing or immunity and amnesty should be given to looters..

And the remaining half baked or unfortunate ones whose mothers wasnt smart enough to be a babymama will come to nairaland and rant his life away about how the country's politicians are not fair and others will quote, mention, like or attack them..

So many Universities in the country is not doing fine all because of federal government lack of attention in these universities.... The problem of Nigeria Government is that every administration wants an establishment of its own while the uncompleted establishment of past Government is left to its faith...
