The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya, disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent, adding that the costs of the training could not yet be obtained.

The Air Force, on Tuesday, had said it commenced the training of 450 carefully selected regiment personnel as Special Forces.

The training, which was organised in three batches at the NAF Regiment Training Centre in Kaduna State, had been said to be handled by FOUR-TROOP, described as an Israeli military training organisation.

Adesanya said on Friday that the training was to fortify the NAF personnel against attacks on military bases in the country, noting that the training would have cost more if the personnel had been sent to Israel.

He said, “Of course, the training given to our personnel by the Israelis will ultimately impact on the war against the Boko Haram insurgents. Do not forget that a part of the challenges we had in the past was the attacks on air force bases in Maiduguri, Borno State. As of that time, our base defence structure was not as strong as it is now.

“The NAF before now was trained to fight a conventional warfare. But the war against the insurgents is an unconventional warfare, also known as an asymmetric warfare. The training being given to the personnel therefore is to make our troops fight an unconventional warfare. It will also enable the air force to be able to protect its bases adequately.

“It is just that the expertise needed is domiciled in Israel. It could have been domiciled in any other country. The hired Israelis are a private organisation. The areas of training are the defence of our critical national assets.”

I like that Bringing Isreal Millitary to train our personnel on our soil is far cheaper than sending our men there for training. This is the way all these oversea trip should be done. It is cheaper, they can train more people here on our soil than sending men there and spend money on Estacode, Travel cost and paying other allowances in dollars

The Airfirce is inviting the Israelis to TRAIN airmen on how to protect NAF bases. The difference is very clear. Since 1960 Nigerian soldiers have always been trained by foreign military powers here on our home turf. I don't see the comparison with Jonathans blunder of a government.

This is what people asked GEJ to do. Train Nigerian troops to have the capability to fight BH. The included bringing in assistance from foreign nations in terms of training and logistics support.

But instead the man engaged mercenaries to fight Boko Haram directly. An entirely unsustainable venture.

Private or Public, the Israelis coming here are coming to TRAIN our troops! Not fight our war! Everytime Nigeria purchases military hardware from foreign countries like fighter jets and armoured tanks, those foreign countries always send specialists to teach Nigerians how to use them.

i get u..but u know the IDF can not directly come and train a country thats controlled by muslims for now...what u should know is that...all of those pmc have served in the IDF

Why hire Isrealis? Isrealis are defenders of Christianity and haters of muslims. Can't Nigeria with our complex religious makeup align with countries that won't show that one religion or the other is favoured? How does it feel if Iranians come to train our military? At least, they too have been fighting terrorists Al-Qaeda and ISIS in Syria for years
