Emotional intelligence helps build and maintain the best, long lasting relationships, friendships and businesses. While the lack of or an inadequate emotional intelligence leads to break ups, divorces and wars.

PsychologyToday defines Emotional intelligence as the ability to identify and manage your own emotions and the emotions of others.
It comprises three skills:

-Emotional awareness
-Ability to harness emotions and apply them to tasks such as thinking, problem solving.
-Ability to manage emotions viz regulating personal emotion and ability to cheer up and calm the emotions of others.

Being emotionally intelligent, we become conscious of the spoken and unspoken words as the most significant communications are non verbal. Such as a long awkward silence during a date, you already know your fate. Or your spouse suddenly stops or picks up certain habits, and you're not bothered. Perhaps at work you're being picked on, you must be doing something wrong and not paying attention.

Learning to pay attention to personal emotions and emotions of others is a process. We experience a wide range of emotions daily, the basic emotions being Happiness, Sadness, Anger, Excitement, Fear and Tenderness.
It is imperative to understand the situations that prompt these emotions and how to identify them in ourselves and others.

The rewards of Emotional intelligence are unlimited; a sense of awareness, internal peace, productive interactions, you become a great company to have around, builds friendships, intensifies good spousal relationships and helps maintain great business relationships with co-staff and also staff-client relationships, ultimately an all round better living.

Thanks Utchaykuku (that's a tongue twisting moniker) Same way you get academic and financial intelligence, Study. Pay attention to your emotions and learn to manage them. There are books and online articles. They say the biggest room is the room for self development. All the best.
