Negotiations were stepped up with PSG to land Angel Di Maria amid the Catalans frustrations over failed attempts to secure a big name since Neymar’s departure.

According to Sport report, PSG have accepted the fee despite the clubs poor relationship since the last time they did business together that saw Neymar’s record-breaking move to Paris.

But the French side were in need to sell while the Spaniards still have some of the £198m deposit burning a hole in their pocket.

Barcelona have had several set backs in their attempts to replace their former star with the pursuits of their top targets Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele being long-winded and full of twists.

Barcelona are to launch a final £136m bid for Liverpool wantaway Coutinho but the Red’s have so far played hardball.

As the La Liga giants turned their attention elsewhere, they have also struggled to get a player to put pen to paper.

After being 90 per cent certain of penning Jean-Michael Seri to a contract, Barcelona and Nice failed to agree to a fee and the deal fell through.
