On Monday, a presidential source told TheCable that President Muhammadu Buhari — who just returned after a three-month medical vacation in London — will be working from his residence in Aso Rock.

The reason given for this was renovations in the president’s office.

However, Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, has come out with the news that the renovation was as a result of various damages rodents had caused.

“Rodents have caused a lot of damage to the furniture and the air conditioning units,” Shehu told THISDAY.

Checks by TheCable revealed that for 2017, N4, 953,184,635b was appropriated for annual routine maintenance of mechanical/electrical installations, building/civil and environmental services within and around Aso-Rock villa facilities.

These facilities include offices of the president and the vice-president.

There is another N139.4m for the maintenance of office buildings and residential quarters in the state house. Also, N52. 8m was appropriated for sewerage charges.

Reactions have continued to trail Shehu’s remarks, and some Nigerians are surprised how rodents could find their way into the president’s office.

“Did the cleaners/maintenance personnel attached to the office also go on the three-month leave with Buhari?” Ayuba Ayus, a Facebook user, asked.

Checking further, TheCable found that in the 2017 appropriation, the state house is to spend N40.8m on rehabilitation of animal enclosures, procurement of vet lab equipment, feeding and medication of wild and domestic animals in the state house zoo.

If the rodents that took over the president’s office while he was away are those from the state house zoo, then those in charge of feeding them should be questioned on why the rodents had nothing to eat, finding their way to feasting on the furniture in the president’s office.

This is from January last year

Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe (PDP Abia South) on Wednesday in Abuja, revealed that N3.9billion was allocated for the renovation of Aso Villa, (the office and residence of the Nigerian President) in the 2016 budget presented to the national assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Abaribe who faulted the large sum earmarked for renovations alone said: “They are going to renovate the Villa with N3.9 billion, what else do you want to renovate there that Nigerians will see in the Year 2016?” he asked.
“It also increased the spending that is due to renovations within the Villa,” he added.
Aso Rock Villa was renovated shortly after Muhammadu Buhari was sworn-in as president
He said that the adjustments rather than reduce spending in areas where they were not necessary only spread it into different offices.
“We were told that in the revised budget there was an adjustment due to error, we agree but what has happened is that up to N7 billion were moved from buying vehicles and spread to offices.
He went on to also point out that domestic spending in the villa has increased. Addressing the senate, he said: “Mr President, a budget that moves domestic spending within Aso Villa from N580 million to N1.7 billion cannot be a budget of change,” he said.
Abaribe while making contributions during the consideration of the budget, said the proposal was faulty on many grounds and could not be implemented at it was.

Our members didn't vandalize Buhari's office" - Rat Association of Nigeria kicks.

Rats Association of Nigeria (RAN) has refuted the Presidency's Allegation of Vandalism against their Members.

Reacting to the allegation, the National chairman Rats Association of Nigeria (RAN) Comrade Ntapia O. Ntapia said "We respect protocols, our members don't cross National Red Lines. We are peaceful and law-abiding citizens as we are found in every home across the country. We therefore urge the general public and good people of Nigeria to please disregard the ridiculous and baseless allegation"

In a telephone chat with the Aso Rock coordinator of the Association Chief Tụfịakwa Kpokokpo, who also debunked the accusation as false and laughable, warned the Buhari's administration to desist from instigating Nigerians against them.
"You could recall that last year, this same administration accused us of spreading Lassa fever in some parts of the country which later turned to be false after mass killing of our members. Now they have come again with another bunkum. We are fully aware that Buhari is doing everything possible to ruthlessly annihilate and exterminate us, but he will fail" he said.

The thing most Nigerians fail to realize is that Aso rock is our ancestral home.

Before you made it your presidential villa, our forefathers have resided there.

Prior to this present government we have been living in peace with you people... Then came tbe HYENAS and THE JACKALS!!!

If you like spend $30bn you can't drive us away like we've driven out your president.

I Lt. Col. Oscar Ibibibo and my team the Royal Rat Brigade will make this place unbearable for you
