Before the International status of this Airport, Ibos complained of how Yorubas deliberately sabotaged them, and used some policies to prevent them from running an international airport out of SE. They claimed that they make up the bulk of travellers. Some even claimed that they are over 90% of the nation's international travelers using the airports in the country. They complained and whined bitterly of how that have to transit via Lagos or Abuja, Port-Harcourt to get to their place. They lament how much revenue they are generating for other places, and how we would suffer losses due to low demand once they get their own airport.

I am just wondering, now that you guys have had this airport for close to 5 years, and how the supposed "almighty Yorubas" did not cause any problem there, what is the international traffic like over there? Are Ibos now using the airport, thereby forcing airliners to move there due to increasing demand? Has the traffic in Lagos and Abuja declined since 90% of travellers should be going through the SE airport?

Please anyone with stats is appreciated.

Thanks,

Well, the embassies are all located in Lagos or Abuja, aren't they? The major ports are in Lagos too.

Taking that into account, if an Igbo businessman (most likely an importer) wants to travel or clear his goods, does it make business-sense for him to go to Lagos/Abuja to get a visa, fly in/out from Enugu International Airport, then head back to Lagos for his goods?

The simple truth is that Nigeria as its presently structured does not favour the Igbo. Nevertheless, we'll keep flourishing because of our enterprising spirit.
