Thursday, August 24, 2017 King and Queen! Ronaldo and Martens crowned UEFA Men and Player of the Year Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been named UEFA Men's Player of the Year (also known as the European best player) for the second year running. Ronaldo edged out Barcelona star Lionel Messi and legendary Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon to clinch the award on record, for the third time. The Portugal captain scored 25 goals in the Spanish La Liga last season, and 12 goals in 13 matches during Real Madrid's triumph in last season's Champions League, (A feat he attained after finishing the group stage with just 2 goals).
