One of the major problems with Nigeria is that we expect FG to everything.

Tuition in the university seems a heavy burden for FG. Lecturers too should make sacrifices, afterall they have room to make extra money through consulting and other things.

Many countries have stopped funding university education long ago. In most developed countries students take loans to pay through their schooling and payback when they start to work. This maybe difficult in Nigeria of today, but at least let lecturers also make sacrifices.

ASUU should stop holding everybody to ransom.

Lecturers enjoy a lot of benefits. They should not compare themselves to bankers who work morning to night and who can get sacked without benefits at short notices.

They should stop comparing themselves to senators, at least we know those ones are impostors interested only in their pockets!

Lecturers have access to grants. They write books that their students will read (the serious ones among them). And more.

Doctors, journalists, editors, engineers etc, all have to struggle to make a living. Lecturers too need to make more sacrifice.

How many times has ASUU gone on strike in the last ten years? Maybe ten times. Should they be taken serious?

We all know the issue - Tuition in government schools is too low to cater for the needs of universities. So, should FG print money and throw the economy into chaos?

we are even back academically struggling to meet up this yr sch calendar ASUU came up with this strike

You got it! In my own time, they first welcomed us with 3 months strike before resumption, then Aluu 4, the, man-o-war strike, then 6 months ASUU madness that delayed my project. In fact, every 2nd semester till I graduated had one form of strike action or the other. As academic staff de do their own, non academic no de carry last too

Its been a total shutdown in FUTMINNA. Almost everybody has gone home and we are not even up to 50 in all the hostels.
Test and exams are still pending.

Yes, some of the best universities in the world are not government-owned. Bu the way to get there is not to deny lecturers of the tools to do their job, or proper remuneration. It's by getting students to pay for the value they get. Do you wanna go that route?

You're surely joking. I assure you 100% that my job is no less stressful than bankers' of my level. I can't speak for the lecturers at your alma mater of course.

You obviously do not know that previous strike actions have borne fruit. Perhaps you need to open your eyes more. Start from the fact that essentially every new project in universities are funded by ETF/TETFUND; fruits from strike actions. End with the fact that the universities are (a little, just a little!) more likely to retain good lecturers now than in the 90s.

No, they shouldn't, but I sure as hell hope they demonstrate better understanding of the issues than you have.
