Mr. Lai Mohammed, Nigeria's Minister for information and Culture, is at the moments live on a national TV. He says that “hate speech includes any speech that might tear the country apart” He says that the government has not even proposed “hate speech bill”

Emphasizing that the government is not making new laws he mentioned the example of the TSA. He said the plan has only been there to implement the TSA but it was only the APC government that had the political courage to implement it.
On hate speech he says “We will henceforth prosecute any who engage in hate speech”

On Phone in Programs
Mr. Mohammed says there is “no directive about phone in programs has been issued as a policy to the MBC or to the media” and that there is no directive such as “you can’t have more than five phone-ins” to a radio or TV station. He said what happened was that recently there was a meeting MBC in the SW zone about sanitizing the industry

About The Military Monitoring Hate Speech
About the military monitoring hate speech, he said “I think it’s a routine job of any security apparatus to monitor speeches” and so on and it does not mean that anyone will be arrested or clamped down by the military. Further he says that the government is only going to ensure that existing laws on terrorism will be enforced. He says maybe the fake news about stifling the media was probably so loud because the announcement of military monitoring.

TVC: Why were we all caught by surprise when the president came back in?

Minister: I hold the press accountable. Mr. president was said to be on life support and that he would never come back into this country alive. In the Punch newspapers one governor said he has 11 pictures which will prove it. Mr. Lai said that press has not called governor to account for the misinformation. He also said that all this is calculated to derail the government plan.
