Fiery Enugu-based Catholic priest gave his views today on the current agitation for the secession of southeast Nigeria from the rest of the country as the Republic of Biafra.

Addressing a gathering of Igbos in East London, the controversial cleric said that Igbos should be the last people seeking to leave Nigeria.

It was a most unfortunate statement by Fr Ejike Mbaka. A man who should be telling his fellow Igbos to aspire to touch the stars is the one telling them that houses and investment is more important than freedom and sovereignty.

Someone who should be standing behind a 45 million strong Igbo nation in their quest to be an independent country is the one telling Igbos to forget freedom just because of money and property.

If Mbaka had not been a Catholic priest, I would have cursed him out!

Freedom never put food on anyone's table. You need to think with your head and not your heart. Read what Mbaka is saying carefully. He is simply stating the fact that Igbos have more to lose from Nigeria breaking up than any other ethnic group b/c they have invested more than others all over Nigeria. FACT.

The people shouting the most about Biafra are the people with nothing to lose. FACT.

He also touched on uncomfortable truths about Igbo disunity that will come back and haunt them in Biafra.
