So many people are so clueless about what governance is all about. They can't lead their two years old brother properly but they rush to criticize anything they see about government online. If you want to criticize it should be constructive criticism. This is a very good idea we don't need to wait for war to start knocking our doors before we start preparing. If we had this some 8 to 10 years ago this country might not be like this. God bless Nigeria. God bless you

If only we can give the deserved attention to vocational/technical education, we can do these all by ourselves and stop the huge capital flight from our dear Nigeria

Hmmm!u have a point sha but the Nigerian airforce is trying to cut its coat according to its size as that's what it can afford to suit its budget.SHALOM

My guy, 4get cuttin' coat accordin' to cloth.

Warfare is not like buyin' a car. It's life or death in a split second.

An F-35 or F-15 can take down 10 Tucanos easy (I'm not exaggeratin'). The F-35 is stealth and cannot be easily detected by radar includin' 5th generation technology amongst others.

That $593m could have gotten them like 6 or 7 F-35s.

Nigeria would have been a regional threat instantly, not local champion.

The Federal Register revealed Nigeria has requested Paveway II and Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) laser-guidance kits and ammunition. It lists these items as “major defence equipment” valued at $29 million, while the “other” component of the deal, for the Super Tucanos, sensors, training and support, is valued at $564 million, .

Over half a million dollars, $564 Million for sensors, training and support.

This vague description is what makes us never achieve anything worthwhile in this country. It only cost $29million dollars for the weapon but training and sensor are over $564 million.

Am sure these monies will find its way into private accounts in one name of consultancy or the other.

The National Assembly should insist on the complete breakdown of this deal and description "other" so we can eliminate waste.

These people should at least fear God.

You get time dey answer these numb skulls

ocelot2006:

Different planes for different purposes.

F-35: Strike
B2: Bomber
Su35: Air Superiority

The Super Tucano is not a WW2 antique, but a very modern Fourth Generation combat aircraft ideal for Counter Insurgency operations. Even the American are presently running trials for a new light Combat Air Support CAS aircraft in place of the A-10 Warthog. Of the 3 aircrafts being considered, the Super Tucano is one.

Those ones are even too expensive.
They could have gone for 7 or 8 F-15s

Do you have any idea how much the F-15 Eagle cost? The Americans will not even sell that Air Superiority aircraft to us, and frankly that aircraft is not what we need now. Funny thing though, the F-15 aircraft is a 1970s design while the Super Tucano is far more modern and is ideal for the operations our military runs from counter insurgency (like the Afghans military against the Talibans) and interdiction ops (like the Colombians who use same aircraft against the smuggling operations of the drug cartels).

Yeah. Just read up on both.

This tucano is ideal for counter-insurgency.
The F-15 is more suited for aerial combat.

You are fighting insurgency in low threat areas and you are talking about F-35, do you even understand what such platforms are built for and the cost of operating them?

Why should we get the best of the best?

I don't know why Nigeria chooses to disgrace us all the time. 593 million can easily buy 10-14 su35 fighter jets. Which is one of the most advanced in the world. But instead, Nigeria chose to buy a fighter jet that belongs in the Museum.... The Buhari administration is a disgrace!!!!

The national illiterate has spoken, i wish you can upload your picture so we can completely excuse our imaginations from this opinion of a Gorilla you wield, Nigeria's order is one of the biggest in the world except the US that got 20 platforms for the Afghan military, again the US didn't pay for cost of training because they have been flying similar platforms like the Warthog, ammo wasn't part of the deal too (Afghan Govt will be doing that themselves), so your order divided by your unit is your unit cost, varies with countries, have you considered variants too?
compare the UK's F-35 order with the US to get an Idea what i'm saying.

This is sad for all parties involved.

Nigeria wasting money on 1939-1945 light aircrafts in 2017
. That is aircraft with 72 years old (as old as Buhari) technology before the advent of colour television. USA even hoodwinked them with the possibility of retrofitting these analog aircrafts with laser technology. LOL.

I hope Cameroun or Niger doesn't go rogue anytime soon because they can easily annex Nigeria. Boko Haram will shoot all these bicycles out of the sky soon assuming the bicycles don't crash and burn themselves. Those suckers could be heard from hundreds of miles away. Boko boys will just shoot them down with 50 cals.

I still don't understand why we're buying from US while the planes are made in Brazil?

There are two variants of the same plane, the Embraer 134 tucano is different from the Sierra Nevada A-29 tucano, the former is brazilian while the later is from the US. you can guess which one we are getting.

I hope you won't suggest we buy the Ohio class submarines next.
