Maths Gurus pls help me with this calculation! Quantitative Reasoning. A house wife forgot her bank 'ATM PIN' which is a four digit number, but luckily she remembered some hints on how to recall this 'PIN' Here are some of the clues (1) The 1st digit is half of the 2nd (2) The sum of the 2nd and 3rd is 10 (3) The 4th is equal to the 2nd plus 1 (4) The sum of all the digits is 23 What is the ATM PIN ? |

Willybos: Answer is 4829 Explanation: Given that first digit is half of the second digit that mean second digit is double of first digit. Let us asuume, the first digit be x Therefore, the second digit be 2x. Given that the sum of second and Third digit = 10 2x + 3rd digit = 10 3rd digit = 10 - 2x 4 th digit = 2 nd digit + 1 = 2x + 1 Now we have, all the four digits of a number = x, 2x 10-2x and 2x+1 Given Sum of all digits = 23 x + 2x + 10 - 2x + 2x + 1 = 23 3x + 11 = 23 3x = 23 - 11 3x = 12, x = 4 Therefore, Four digits are 4, 8, 2, 9 |

In a school, they are 180 students in 100 level. 110 students offer courses in Aerospace engineering, 88 offers courses in cyber security and 65 offer courses in ICT. If 40 students offer courses in both aerospace engineering and cyber security, 38 offer courses in cyber security only. Find the number of students who offer: A. All the three courses B. ICT only C. None of the 3 courses D. At least one course E. Either one or two of the three courses Represent it with a Venn diagram |

Debate is academically stimulating. Kudos. Goal Setting For 2019 Will Make You Laugh At Last This piece was sent in by a very, very, very close friend of mine who writes for newkokoro sometimes. In the early 1990’s while I was in Junior Secondary School (JSS) in Lagos, I attended a club meeting. One of the external leaders of the club came around that Friday and handed all of present some forms to fill. He was trying to get our BIODATA in order to know the executive offices we will fit into. One aspect of the form asked about what career line we want to pursue in the future. I never thought about that until that moment. Nobody ever spoke to me about my future career or life goals. I just went to school and came back home from day to day. That Friday that I wrote down my life career brought about unforgettable changes in my life. I wrote it down again for myself and put it under my pillow. I became more focused. I now know that I need not do commercial or art subjects in my Senior Secondary School (SSS) because I aimed to become a godly medical doctor. That made me to take physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and English Language seriously. It came naturally that I did well in those science subjects. I bought the textbooks and stayed awake at night to read them. Today, I am not a medical doctor but I am a godly biologist. This is the power of goal setting.
