I have said this many times before that our people buy the simple cars because of our technical level. The Japanese make simple to fix cars because of the remote nature of areas in developing countries, they made replacement of parts simple with simple tools so our people tend to buy them at auctions. The first owner will always buy a car they can resell for a higher price not necessarily the best car. After 10 years a Nigerian will pay more for a 2004 Corolla than a 2008 Chevy Cruze but most of the time cars share replacement parts and the new original parts can be purchase and shipped online for less than the fake one in Nigerian market if the corruption of the Nigerian customs does not come into play |

luxy44: If Toyota sells 250, 000 corollas on the US in 2012 how many of Corolla for that model year will be sold as tokunbo in Nigeria or other countries by 2018, now compare that to a Chevy Cruze , or Ford Focus. it means used Japanese cars are in demand in the US( mainly for export ) than American brands so higher resale value. But if owners truly open their eyes and see the value they are getting out of these used Japanese cars, they will be surprised by what you can get and the same price of a Corolla at Elizade. If and only if they followed a different path |

sultaan: Hold on a second, lets leave Nigeria out of it first and talk about the US (shebi that's where u live). Does the Chevrolet Cruze sell more than the corolla in the US? The answer is NO. In fact Toyota will sell 5 Corolla before 1 Chevrolet Cruze is sold. So why then do u make this look like a Nigerian thing? If Americans that supposedly more technically equipped still buy Corolla instead of cruze then why would Nigerians with less technical knowledge buy a Cruze? What sense does that make? And a cruze will likely break down more often than a corolla so why would we choose it over a corolla? Why would someone buy a car and when his headlamp breaks he has to wait a few weeks to order it online? In fact only 3 cars sell more than Toyota corolla in the Us and they are Ford F series, Chevrolet silverado and RAM trucks.. they are all trucks. After these 3 next are camry, Civic, Corolla, crv, rav 4, accord. If americans are buying these cars then why is it a crime if Nigerians buy them? 80% of cars shipped into this country come from North America. |

greenhulk: There is something called the trade in value of a car, people will buy cars they can trade in for more so they won't owe more than the car is worth. Now remember we are talking of a poor man's car, now if we go up the ladder things change when it comes to volume such as in full size cars or $50,000 trucks. The most luxurious Japanese car usually used in Nigeria is the ES350 or Acura TLX which is in the $35000 range but when you get to the Acura RL, Lexus GS those sales numbers are at par because the export market is not as huge as the low end models Another trend is that the Toyota model that are now high ends are no longer used by Nigerians because kazeem can't fix it example will be the 4Runnet and Land cruiser 1 Like |
