So, The Nigerian Police could not employ someone that can write in english without abbreviations?

The failure of the ministry of education to curb this menace of young people's penchant for writing in short words is the all height of quackery!

....when you think you've heard it all....now this. Any further proof needed that these chaps haven't shaken off the cloak and mannerism of their colonial ancestors.... where every citizen was a defacto enemy of state...pity.

get enlightened and stop being myopic about the use of short words on Twitter. twitter allows 140 character per tweet so anyone that cant communicate well within such limits doesnt deserve to be on twitter. Even donald trump uses abbreviations on twitter

As everyone is a suspect so is everyone innocent until proven to be guilty only in the court but would Nigerian police agree with this? Once they feel they can make money out of you, you will hear "you this criminal" the next thing is a hot slap landing on your face

I kinda agree with the police force becos with the way things are going in the world of today, everyone is a suspect including the police themselves cos no one can be trusted.

Are you in any way equating commonsense with Donald Trump?

Although, I don't use twitter but even here on nairaland and other social media, most people are fond of relaying in short words.

Just like every nigerian police officer is a thief until proven otherwise
That is how they (the nigerian police) will go to an area after the criminals had left and arrest the inhabitants of the area with about ten (10) hilux vehicles each holding twelve (12) persons or a bus with eighteen (18) persons totalling 120 persons or 180 persons without any evidence on them. Lock them up for days and collect fifty thousand naira and above from the families of the people who are helpless. At #50000 per person for 120 persons they make #6M and with 180 persons the amount the DPO and his boys make is #9M. If you fail to pay the police you will be tagged /charged with whatever crime they feel will make you hopeless. My joy is that some of them die prematurely due to karma from the gods of the innocent. What about forceful collecting of #100 each from every helpless keke napep and okada riders on the south-south and south-east roads and at every junction armed with ak47 everyday, is that not armed robbery. God help us.

what mediocrity? why dont you come and tell everyone tweeting on twitter to stop using abbreviations? hate it or love it, the use of abbreviations is the order of the day on twitter and everyone will love to maximize the use of the 140 characters. You cant type a long message under 140 characters using full words

Mac2016:
Police should embrace investigative policing instead of its interrogative side (battering and forcing arrested suspects to say and write things)
Investigative policing would involve other working agencies of government. So dont think America style of policing will work in Nigeria.
First of all, we dont have a reliable shareable database of Nigerians. The nearest is BVN of course but it not integrated to record criminal history and certainly doesnt cover 60% of the population.

Investigative policing means,
1. the person ID is on the database (we dont have)
2. his recent travels and purchase are logged (we dont have)
3. his face has been captured in a CCTV in at least last one month (we dont have)
4. once his ID is flagged, he cannot use any social services (not in Nigeria)

So in the absence of all these, the Nigeria Police has to work with what it has - guilty until proven innocent

So why doesn't the police build a database oh wise one. If the CBN can, surely the police with more teeth and judicial backup can. They are just a lazy and ignorant bunch. Read through the history of the FBI or the ATF, they passed over mountains of civil liberties to build the investigative capacities and competencies they have today. We just love mediocrity here. No thinkers and doers in Africa.
