UEFA Champions League: 5 Top African Stars To Watch by bouncenews2: 9:44am On Sep 13, 2017
The UEFA Champions League is Europe’s biggest club competition but African stars, year after year, have made their mark in the competition.

From the likes of Celestine Babayaro who was the youngest player ever to play in the competition to the likes of Abedi Pele who won the trophy with Olympique Marseille over two decades ago, African players have indeed paid their dues.

As the 2017/18 season takes full swing from Tuesday night, Bounce Sports takes a look at 5 Top African Stars To Watch in the Champions League this term.

1. Sadio Mane

After ending last season abruptly with an injury, the Senegalese star came with a bang this season and he has been a vital part of the Liverpool team.

Aside from Mane, the Reds also have other African talents in Joel Matip, Sadio Mohamed Salah and even Dominic Solanke they can bank on.

2. Victor Wanyama

The combative Kenyan midfielder will not be in action when Tottenham get their campaign underway in Match Day 1, Spurs did not go far last season and they will hope to have Wanyama back fast enough to give a better fight this term.

3. Victor Moses

For the Nigeria international who was absent when Chelsea last conquered Europe, it is time to roll up the shelves and give the Champions League the best possible shot.

To date, Nigeria has produced three winners - John Obi Mikel, Finidi George and Nwankwo Kanu - but don't bet against Victor Moses adding to that tally this term, even if the Blues will have to give up on the Premier League title won last season.

4. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

The Gabon international had his best show ever in the Champions League last season and he would be hoping to build on that this term.

The Dortmund star stayed in Germany despite multiple offers for his services even from the money driven Chinese League.

That is good for Dortmund who will hope to go further than the quarter finals this season.

5. Eric Bailly

The Ivorian defender is already a seasoned continental performer after several extended Europa League campaigns.

Now hoping for the big one, Baily is one of the personnel Jose Mourinho will be banking on as he seeks to become the first coach ever to win the Champions League with three different clubs.
