66 year old William Reed was born colour blind.

So for his birthday, his family decided to pitch in to get him Enchroma glasses for his birthday. His reaction is priceless.

This is what his wife said when she posted the video on YouTube;

“Born colorblind, William lived his whole life in back and white. For his 66th birthday, his family decided to pitch in together to buy Enchroma glasses that have color correcting lenses that help the colorblind see color. This video is his expression to opening his gift and witnessing color for the first time.”

Colour blindness (or colour vision deficiency (CVD)), is a condition where a person’s eyes are unable to see colours under normal light. People with colour blindness have a hard time telling colours apart from each other.

Enchroma glasses are the only specialty eyewear that alleviates red-green colour blindness, enhancing colours without the compromise of colour accuracy. In other words, colour-blind people can see colours when they wear these glasses.

WHO IS AFFECTED?

It is estimated that Colour blindness affects 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women globally. The most common condition is the red-green colour blindness.

Most people who suffer from colour blindness are not blind to colour, but have a reduced ability to see them.

CVD can be acquired, but most are inherited genetically. The genes that influence the colours inside the eyes, called ‘photopigments,’ are carried on the X chromosome. If these genes are abnormal or damaged, colour blindness occurs.
