Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State
has condoled with the government and people of
Niger Republic on the death of traders from that
country in a boat accident near Lolo in Bagudo
Local Government area of the state.
A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary
to the Governor, Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingari
says, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu paid a
sympathy visit to Niamey where he was received
by President Muhammadu Yusuf at the
presidential palace.
Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu commiserated
with him on behalf of President Muhammadu
Buhari and people of Nigeria on the loss of lives
of the people who were travelling to Lolo in
Nigeria from Gaya and Dosso in Niger Republic.
The Governor prayed Allah to grant the victims
Mercy and their families, fortitude to bear the
loss.
He said Kebbi State Government was touched
and saddened about the incident, calling on all
ECOWAS countries in charge of safety of water
transportation to ensure adequate measures to
regulate over speeding and overloading by boat
operators as well as enforce the use of safety
jackets.
In response, the President of Niger Republic,
Alhaji Muhammadu Yusuf expressed appreciation
to President Muhammadu Buhari and people of
Nigeria for the sympathy visit and commended
people in towns and villages on the border for
doing their best in the rescue operation of
passengers in the sunk boat.
President Muhammadu Yusuf acknowledged the
act of brotherliness of Muhammadu Buhari who
called on phone personally to extend his
condolence and sending high powered delegation
led by Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu to
commiserate with the citizens of Niger Republic.
He said the two countries would continue to
work together to strengthen unity, cooperation,
understanding, friendliness and good
neighborliness, thanked Governor Abubakar Atiku
Bagudu for his support and understanding to
border communities.
In a similar development, Governor Abubakar
Atiku Bagudu paid a visit to the palace of the
traditional ruler of Gaya, Mallam Yakubu Sodangi
where some of the victims originated from to
offer him condolence.
Responding the Governor of Dosso Mallam Musa
Usman, Prefect of Gaya Ila Sama’ila, the
Chairman of Gaya Ahmadu Hamidu and the
traditional ruler Yakubu Sodangi commended the
Governor for the condolence visit and assistance
accorded by the people of Nigeria to their
neighbors and to the families of the victims.
Reports indicated that 82 people were on the
boat at the time of the accident of whom thirty
six people died, twenty bodies recovered while
forty six others were rescued alive.
Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu was
accompanied on the visit by the Deputy Speaker,
Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammadu
Buhari Aliero, Member of the House of Assembly,
Representing Bagudo West, Muhammadu Sani
Lolo, Commissioner of Finance, Ibrahim
Muhammad Augie and Political Adviser, Alh.
Yusuf Haruna Rasheed.
Others were the Chairman of Dandi Local
Government, Alhaji Garba Salisu Kamba,
Representative of Emir of Gwandu, Bunun
Gwandu, Alhaji Abubakar Zaki Wala,
Representative of Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Yusuf
Sulaiman Zango Mai-Arewa Kangiwa and a
renowned Politician and Businessman Alhaji
