I don't think rap is music. It has no melody which is necessary for music.
It's a bundle of statements, it's a rhytmic sort of speeching. I's vocal acrobacy, not music.
Martin Luther King did the same with his speeches: rhytmic and timed speaking.
Rap and hiphop:Tho' it's OK by me, but I still don't agree, one can do whatever he wants.
But don't tell me that it's music, because it isn't.

I think you will find that once it have rhythm like you have stated, and been done against a back drop of various instruments in arranged fashion to include, chorus, bridge etc. It becomes music.

That is my understanding, but those who have deeper understanding of music theory will tell you more.

@poster
and you dare calling your self a DJ!?
go and get yourself some musical education!

here is something for you to consider. a mc can RAP on a country western song so therefore you should have understood that RAP(as you put it) isnt really a musical genre but if you talk about HIP HOP then this is definitely music like melody, beats etc.
like someone once said: ALL HIP HOP IS RAP BUT NOT ALL RAP IS HIP HOP!

would you like me to elaborate on that too?!

That's an interesting way to see it. . . I think rap should try to be music.
I know many people that still don't accept rap as music. . . Noel Gallagher still said it two years ago.

Many rappers (Kanye, Eminem, Weezy, Jay-Z) still hold on to the musical roots of rap, in their delivery, they tend to sing out their lines . . . see Jay-Z's Forever Young.

Now is rap good music?? I think not.

When you rap over a Bob Marley beat, it's no longer a hiphop song.
