I remember when a group suggested to then President Obasanjo to provide Retirement homes and how he commented negatively.

Retirement homes are homes where senior citizens are placed under specialist care. These homes are usually staffed with professionals experienced with handling geriatric (old people) patients , diagnosing and providing treatments/managements and also monitoring the patients health status and response to treatment.

This way, more jobs are created, and the patients get timely and accurate care (which alot of Nigerians lack the ability to provide). They are also kept in a an environment which houses their needs as old people devoid of harmful objects, engaging them in activities that slow down their degeneration due to aging. Yet both parents and children alike kick against this idea.

Why?

As important as this question is you will be surprised it will not make front page instead u see alot of irrelevant topics splashed on front page,that been said in Nigerian it is believed that out parents are ours alone to care for and not the government. What they forget is just as kids, our aged parents need same if not more care and attention form capable hands who are trained to care for them,we also over look the fact that our aged parents will do well in this kind of environment and give us the time to get about our daily hustle while we make out time to visit them and once in a while bring them home to also visit. The government is just a selfish one as they only care for themselves and how much they can steal while they set the masses against themselves.
