life2017:

Before colonialisation, The whole of Anioma, ika, kwale, etc were part of Benin Kingdom and Benin Empire. After and during colonialisation, Anioma was part of Western Region. And later became part of Midwest and later became part of Bendel before becoming part of Delta State today.

Anioma has never in history be part of Eastern region. Never. Never Never. Even when Ojukwu was Governor of Eastern Region, Anioma were not under him. They were all under Midwest.

When Ojukwu wanted Biafra, He wanted the whole Midwest to be part of Biafra. Even when Ojukwu invaded Midwest (Including asaba) he named it Republic of Benin like a confederation because he could not clearly called it Biafra because they were a under a different Millitary Governor David Ejoor with headquarter in Benin City.

So part of Anioma, ika, kwale etc all part to the North of River Niger were ever part of Eastern region.

Please You Need To Go and Read .

I can understand all this but this is not abiut the recreation of the old Bini empire. Bendel Republic makes no sense if people are forced into it against their will. So a referendum is very important.

I would say that in the referendum, they should be given the choice of:

Nigeria
Bendel
Biafra

The Igbo speaking part of Bendel or the Anioma area must be given a choice to decide which these 3 choices they want.

Many of the Aniomas(forget the language factor) can trace their ancestry to Benin so what are all these guys saying? Meanwhile, that region was the epicenter of what I believe holds the world record for the shortest-lived independent State: The Republic of Benin,a puppet State created by Biafra during the early days of the civil war in 1967. It lasted for roughly a day(September 19-20 1967) before it capitulated to federal forces.

It Bight not birth, second Biafara or Biafra is now in Cameroun. Third the Bight of Biafra covers four countries; Nigeria, Cameroun, Equitorial Guinea and Gabon.
Please ask your brothers in the three countries to prepare a referendum to have all the Biafra Bighted people under the Igbos of Nigeria and get their response.

Thanks for the correction. With time there'll be alignment and realignment with others that share common ideology and historical heritage, but we'll start from somewhere - Nigeria.

thanks but anioma is not part of bendel and can never be part of bendel

See as they are rushing to deny Anioma as part of Bendel yet will go around telling the world that Urhobos, Isokos, Ibibios, Ijaws, etc, are Biafrans.

Sense fall on una flat heads.

myright:
By Gabriel Enogholase
BENIN—A group, Midwest Movement, has threatened to declare Bendel Republic if the leadership of the country fails to play its constitutional role and entrench true federalism. The group said the proposed Bendel Republic is made up of Edo and Delta states and comprise 12 tribes that include Akoko-Edo, Esan, Benin, Etsako, Owan, Anionma, Ika, Ndokwa, Urhobo, Isoko, Ijaw and Itsekiri. The movement warned that should government continue to play the ostrich with the current agitations for restructuring, the Midwest region will resist all attempts to annex, attach or conscript it as part or any part of its near or far neighbours. The group said: “If the federation of Nigeria fails to hold under the weight of government’s inability to play its constitutional role and because of the reckless actions of ethnic jingoists, the Midwest territorial area shall employ, embrace and adopt every available international instrument, conventions and protocols to take its destiny in its hands as a territory to be called Bendel Republic or any name or appellation our people so choose to adopt.” Dr. Don Obaseki, Convener of the movement, in an eight-point demand in Benin, the Edo State capital yesterday, said the group was deeply concerned about the situation in the country, adding that “the federation of Nigeria is in dire crisis due to injustice, marginali-sation and flagrant violation of the terms agreed upon by its founding fathers.” …lists demands The group demanded, among others, “that government and representatives of the people in parliament to consciously heed the voices of reason on the call for a re-federalisation of the country, using all available constitutional means, while factoring the interests and aspirations of all ethnic nationalities in Nigeria; “That government and its officials refrain from and resist the temptation of casting all those calling for peaceful resolution of the current political impasse as mere appointment seekers; “Government should, as a matter of urgency, broaden its consultation and engagement with stakeholders of all ethnic nationalities, with a view to working out modalities to ease the current avoidable tension in the country.”

By the time the fg send battalions to every disturbing areas in Nigeria (southeast states, southwest states, northeast, kaduna, bendel and other locations that will soon experience uprising), I wonder how many soldiers will be left in the barracks.

Buhari has succeeded in dividing this nation with his body language and his despotic ways of rulership. If Nigeria succeeds to stay together till the end of baba's tenure then I doubt if Nigeria will ever disintegrate again.

This is a trying time for Nigeria. Many ppl are almost fed up with the govt, no matter how much you pretend. Deep down in your heart you know all its not well. Either restructuring or disintegration, something fast needs to be done before the situation gets out of hand.

I used to be a proud Nigerian but not anymore

You should go back to school. There was never a time in historic horizon any Igbo land was under Benin Empire. Any Oba of Benin that even ventured south-ward regretted every bit of such suicidal endeavor. When the so-called Benin Empire was smashed by the British and the so-called Oba exiled to faraway destination, Ndigbo via Ekumeku still had British in their crosshair. There was cough from any person under the so-called Benin Empire after the British had the Oba confiscated and bundled into exile. Yet British never had a rest of mind in Igbo land. The creation of regions or states does not delineate the lines between tribes or cut cultural affinity. There were Igbo in the defunct Midwestern region of Nigeria and even first premier of the region was Igbo man from Asaba.
