on Biafra or The Independent
People of Biafra, IPOB.
The agitation of the Indigenous
people of Biafra is no longer a joke as we can see that the matter is gradually getting some
international attention.
But then, for our readers who
might not be up to date with some basic facts about Biafra, here is these 11 things you need to know about Biafra.

1. It is a movement of Igbo
speaking people. Mostly people
from the Southeastern
Geopolitical region of Nigeria

2. The agitation was first led by
late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu
Ojukwu. Late Ojukwu declared
Biafra 30 May 1967 from the city
of Aburi in Ghana.

3. The war against Biafra led by
then, General Yakubu Gowon
lasted for over 30 months. It
seems to be one of the longest
ever in Nigeria.

4. This present-day Agitation for a
sovereign state of Biafra is led
by Nnamdi Kanu.
5. Odumegwu-Ojukwu was in exile for 13 years over issue
bordering on Biafra

6. The majorly known group
agitating for Biafra are MASSOB
and IPOB 7. After the demise of Late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu
Ojukwu in 2011, the group
became active again in 2012

8. Late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu
Ojukwu, the first leader of Biafra
hails from Anambra and
precisely from Nnewi.
9. Right from time the Biafra
Agitators has seen Nigeria as an
opposition to their
emancipation

Nnamdi Kanu holds dual
citizenship. He is a British-
Nigerian

1. Late Ojukwu led the creation of
the Biafra Radio which is now
managed by Nnamdi Kanu
