The Ekiti 2018 All Progressives Congress’ (APC) primaries race keeps gaining grounds day by the day. So many notable sons of the land have declared their intentions to vie for the post of governor through the APC platform. Heavyweights such as Babafemi Ojudu, Chief Segun Oni and Olumuyiwa Olumilua are amongst those who are in the race.Surprisingly, despite being a heavyweight member of the Ekiti APC, some still don’t know very much about the third personality mentioned in the earlier paragraph. I have taken out time to do some research on him, and would be sharing a summary of this research.

Born on the 23rd of January, 1969, he is the son of Evangelist Bamidele Isola Olumilua (erstwhile governor of old Ondo State) and Pastor (Mrs.) Theresa Gbesi Olumilua. He hails from Ikere-Ekiti.

As a true son of the land, his education was taken seriously. His educational journey started at St. Charles Hultz School, Ottawa, Canada, with a transfer to United Nations International School, Manhattan, USA. He was moved back home to complete his primary level education at Omolere Nursery and Primary School, Akure, Ondo State.

The academic brilliance of the young Muyiwa started to become evident at Omolere. He was awarded the best pupil at the Primary Schools Competitive Examination (old Ondo State) of 1979. This feat aided him in gaining admission into the Federal Government College, Idoani, Ondo State, though he completed his secondary school education at Mary Immaculate Grammar School, Ado-Ekiti.

In no time, Mr. Muyiwa had completed his university education also. He obtained Bachelor of Science Degree (BSc.) in Estate Management from the University of Lagos (1986-1990). Furthering his education, he went on to obtain a Masters degree in Business Administration with a focus on Finance, from the present day Ekiti State University in 1998.

Currently, Mr. Olumilua Muyiwa is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Keshlink Investment Limited; Real McCoy Energy; Vice Chairman of Friends and Partners Limited; a partner at an auctioneering firm known as EnergyNET; and the principal partner at Muyiwa Olumilua and Associates.

Also, he is the current President, Certified Institute of Auctioneers, Nigeria (CIAN, Abuja Chapter), and a member of the Texas and Abuja chapters of the International Facility Managers Association (IFMA).
The gentle looking man, who served as the Social Secretary of the Estate Management Students’ Association (EMSA), in his University days is no fan of rejection. He led to the call back of all rejected corpers nationwide in the year 1990.

Mr. Olumuyiwa led a protest to the palace of the then Sultan of Sokoto, Ibrahim Dasuki, to protest an unfair lockout due to late arrival of him and some other corpers due to reasons beyond their control.

This act forced the authorities to recall all rejected corpers in his camp and other camps nationwide, for this he was named “President of the Rejected Corpers”.

After service, Mr.Olumuyiwa started to get more acquainted with politics and aligned with the platform of his father then; the defunct Social Democratic Party in the early 90’s. He was a committed national youth leader of the party.

This commitment exposed him to grassroots’ networking and a high level of humanitarian services.
In bid to maintain the political stability of the Olumilua dynasty, Mr. Muyiwa focused more on working behind the scenes and serving his people and the APC in every way he could while his dad remained the face of the family politically.

Under Dr. Kayode Fayemi, he served as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor on Project Monitoring (2010-2012). Through the office, he worked extensively on monitoring the nature and quality of projects at the local government level to be sure they were up to standard.

Further, he served as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Integration and Intergovernmental Relations in the same administration. Managing relationships between the state and other governmental levels was his focus here, with an achievement of attracting proper funding for ecological projects in the state.

The ambition of Mr. Muyiwa to run for the post of the governor was made known on 19th December, 2016. He has been described by many as a good listener and easy to relate with, this is evidenced in the manner which he interacts with his social media followers and people offline.

Bringing this summary to a close, Mr. Muyiwa is a devout Christian and a committed sportsman. His sporting interests are basketball, volleyball and football. Interestingly, he was a heavily awarded high jumper in his secondary school days. Also, a UNESCO Projects Partner, Commonwealth Ambassador, and married to Mrs. Olufunke Olumilua with four beautiful children.
