Why North Opposes Restructuring – Ajimobi by Dionnetech: 12:05am On Sep 28, 2017
Ibadan—Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, yesterday gave insight into why the North is against the clamour for the restructuring of Nigeria’s politics system.

Ajimobi, at the third annual lecture of Dauda Adegbenro Foundation, in Ibadan, said the North opposed the agitation because it wanted the status quo of which it is a great beneficiary, sustained.

The theme of the lecture is: “Transparency in the Extractive Industries: Driving wealth creation and sustainable revenue as solution to economic recession.”

The governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Gbade Ojo, said there were many things wrong with the present Nigeria’s political system that restructuring would put right.

According to him, the nation’s present political system has robbed states of revenues and unless there is a reform, the second tier of government will continue to depend on handouts from the federation account.

He added that without a constitution amendment or restructuring, the state’s would remain parasites.

He said amending the constitution would make states get involved in the extractive industries and boost their revenues.

He also said Nigerians must decide on the type of federalism they want to practice as no two federalism are the same.

In his lead paper at the lecture, Executive Secretary, NEITI, Mr. Waziri Adio, listed areas Nigeria should focus on to drive sustainable growth and development on the extractive industries and in Nigeria.

Dismantle this status quo so that every body will go back to state level and fight whatever honorable.

The north is opposed to restructure for the same reason the west only pays lip service to ìt and doesnt want to pursue it vigorously and for the same reason both north and west want one Nigeria so badly- everybody likes monthly allocation from oil. Who no like free gift? I just hope the owners of the oil will finally wake up and realise who the enemies are.

Abi.

Yoruba has bad "leaders" in this generation.

The argument back and fort on restructuring is over money from niger delta oil. Nothing else.

No new initiatives.

Untill the day the South will unite to fight their common enemies, the north will continue to rule the south till thy kingdom come.

How does the east differ from the west & north here ?
The south is the bonafide victim. Even the biafra 'strugglers' was trying to include the ss as minorities.

This was why every Nigerian needed Nnamdi Kanu.

They said he preached hate against the Hausa-Fulani but that's just what it ought to be. The North West largely comprising the Hausa-Fulani ethnic majority have held Nigeria and Nigerians to a halt that nothing good happens in the country.

Their position is that of a gross injustice and glaring inequality against other regions and groups and every single political move is an insult on the sensibilities and rights of other ethnic groups. The master plan was by the British and it's still working till today. It's an archaic status-quo.

I bet, if Kanu had just dismantled that staunch hegemony which of course is jittery right now thanks to his dogged fight against it, and restructuring is done so as to enthrone justice and equity, he would end the Baifra agitation.

The greatest enemy Nigeria faces is that hegemony. The rulership of Nigeria by illiterates at the expense of literates; of those who contribute virtually nothing taking the biggest chunk of the resources at the expense of those who produce virtually all. Hence, since no hard work is put at generating the revenue, it becomes free money that is squandered so frivolously. It's also, holding other region with higher pace of development down to measure your crawling pace of development with the pestilential, impure "Quota system."

Hope Nigerians will get sense at last.

But it had been stated that income from the sale of groundnuts produced by the North was used as seed fund in prospecting for the oil.

lol. Who said this exactly? Where is evidence of this because I knw coal and palm oil major Nigerian export pre-independence and they both came from the old eastern region... which some how was where prospecting was going on. Is it feasible that money from poor north would be used for prospecting oil in rich eastern region?

If I'm not wrong it was Yakassai who said so from the Colonial administration archives. You may wish to Google the matter. Anyway it might be mistaken to call the North poor.

Nothing concrete on google about this, just checked. I dont think its wrong to call the north poor considering that its generally known that the British amalgamated north and south to offset north's economic deficit. Why didnt they amalgamate uganda and kenya or south africa and zimbabwe if they were looking just to create a big African country. North Nigeria was the only British colony that was not viable to stand on its own as a country. You need to know also that the British came to what is now Nigeria in 1860 through the royal niger company. They ruled north, south and lagos separately for many years b4 1st joining lagos with south in 1906 and joining north with south in 1914

Just googled the matter and discovered it was Prof ango abdulai made the statement. Well? It's indeed about time we ensure everybody brings something to the table. Oil owners wake up!
