Daejoyoung:

We are talking about reaching the last four or last eight at least. You don't have to be a superpower for that, just get a lighter group. The ranking already shows we are no powerhouse but games like these should be won to improve our ranking so as to steal a more favourable group. The game against Argentina is also one to at least avoid defeat

Last 8 should probably be the initial target so we can surpass our previous records. Anything after that would be considered a bonus. Nobody in the world would be predicting that Nigeria can make the last four..., except very optimistic Nigerians.

Beating Argentina on Tuesday or avoiding defeat can not be used to judge how well we will do at the Mundial. The team make-up can change drastically between now and the final 23 in June. We've seen that happen before. I remember us loosing games scandalously on the way to France 98 only to beat Spain in our first game and then top our group after another win against Bulgaria. Until the tournament starts proper, everything is conjecture. We've seen World Cup winning teams crashing out in the first round.

Nigerians should manage their expectations to avoid unnecessary frustrations next year. Let's support the team and wish them the best.

But when did Kelechi Iheanacho become a left footer. Instead of perfecting his finishing and crossings, he's busy practicing left foot in a match.
Iheanacho is a left footer

I still think the ball was a penalty and the refree made a right call.

lets look at it from an unbiased perspective

the Nigerian defender held brahimi, outside the box, and prevented him from the ball, he continued to obstruct him as they entered the box, the nigerian defender then intentionally dived to deceive d ref and diverted his attention from his apparent foul.

But the ref was close and saw everything and he was not decieved and gave the penalty

Other ref who did not have a clear view would have been decieved and would have called a goal kick as the Nigerian defender dived, but it would have been a wrong call

and some ref might have waved play on, but it would have been wrong because there was a foul

the Nigerian defender should have known better, if you want to foul someone like that makesure, you have brought him down outside the box, dont let the foul spill to the box 18

all in all, The ball was a penalty
Its true our defender held Brahimi but the referee shouldn't have blown the whistle since Brahimi was still moving strong with the ball. Weathered the defender fell or not is not the issue.

For me it's a clear penalty!
Our defender is lightweight and not that strong, He lost his balance and fell on Brahimi.
Brahimi is strong and got a good balance, many other strikers would have felled due to Shehu's challenge.
All in all, it's a penalty.

For more than 20yrs now, African refs have been going to the world cup. Cure your ignorance.

We have terrible refs in the west too or you don't watch UCL and other leagues?

No wonder they are not called to officiate in the world cup

For a decision as serious as a penalty! Please lets remove emotion from football.
Its clear there was a contact. The Ref has a duty of first refusal to blow for a penalty.
I believe over 70% world class Refs would blow for a penalty due to that challenge

The left full back is Ola Aina, a Chelsea product; a boy making his full debut after switching allegiance from England to Nigeria. Of course he is bound to be nervous as he seeks to impress. Even Leon Balogun and Ekong, the two half castes had not too memorable debuts. Now they are more confident after several games.
If you know him, tell him to wake up ooo......
