*INDEPENDENT BUT STILL DEPENDENT* *Nigeria @ 57* Let me begin on this note.( I write with a grieved heart)
Nigeria that was suppose to be my motherland Is now becoming a land of murder And our leaders don't even bother The poor are been vituperated and the rich don't consider Terrorist attack prevails, not wanting to surrender Our leaders are sitting on their hands - having nothing to render When the country gets worst, they leave for the border Flying away to other countries like birds with feather Leaving us to ourselves and having none to call us to order After many years they return and we obsequiously hand them a medal They smile drinking their putrid soda Is this the fatherland we hoped for?? Please what is our offense? That @ 57 we still live in a fence And in fact our situation is so tense That we can't explain in words, using pen @ 57, is this the Nigeria Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe would have expected?? He and others fought so our country would be respected Our past leaders labored for us to be in concord But here we are returning to discord Thereby making futile the efforts of our heroes Turning their legacies to zero Because to ourselves we trade with arrows. @57, is it not high time we handed ourselves an olive tree? Or is Nigeria no longer our country? Then why not stop the killing spree. Ha! Nigeria @ 57 Yet we live in the oven Ain't we suppose to live as though we are in heaven? Why not let us unite together forming a coven. If truly you are able to discern You would know that you don't need the tittle of a SAN Before you know that the progress of Nigeria is our concern @ 57 the motto should be "yes, we can" So do not let us ern As though we are given a ban But let's brace up like a man And fight our problems with our hands And then we can say " we are fifty seven and we live in heaven.
