THE LEFT HAND.

I begin to wonder and marvel,why the left hand is being discriminated and distinguished in a bad light and manner especially in the Nigerian society.
The last time I checked, it was God who created both the left hand and equally the right hand.He even bluntly said in the holy Scriptures, "let us make man according to our own image and likeness". This statement verifies the fact that,the left hand is in accordance with his own image and likeness. So why do we keep discriminating the left hand. A question which nobody especially the elderly ones has been able to churn out a concrete and valid answer. What they know is that the left hand is bad. In my own opinion, that is a myopic and limited way of declaring judgement on an issue,that is not based or created upon a substantial, accurate and factual evidence.
A fact is usually backed by evidence, as I was taught in school. Those educated folks who have passed through the walls of an educational system will agree with me on that. So why do we keep having a strong prejudice against the left hand, which is even created by God,just beause of some fairy tales told by the older generation, which is not even backed up by facts or evidence.
I am raising this issue up ,because i am a very inquisitive person. You can't tell me to follow an order,just because someone older and more advanced than me is saying it. No!!! I follow an order or agree with an issue, if my research has given me a clear insight on why i should follow an order or agree with an issue, and if it is based on a tangible and concrete evidence.
I once asked an elderly person a simple question? Why is everyone saying you should not give someone something, or shake someone with the left hand? All he could tell me was that, the left hand is not a good sign of respect. Hmmmm, I asked why is it described , portrayed and despicted that way, all he could say was that i ask too many questions and we should not speak about the issue again.

Well the bottomline is this. The left hand is always created in the image and likeness of God . so we don't have any valid or concrete reason to hate the left hand.

I wan ask this simple question .If they give you Ten(10) million naira with the left hand, you no go take?

I know right? .. I guess it has to do with ancient traditions of Our people.. It could be that since the majority are right handed, they considered being left handed an anomaly. Even the Bible values The right hand over the left.

So, I guess its just a social prejudice thing that has been passed on through the generations. It may be eradicated tho but would take a while

There's nothing wrong using the left hand. It's not a sin neither have there being any fact or prove to the best of my knowledge that buttress left hand person as bad,. Even what you highlighted op, many persons will not agree with you but they forget that the Bible made it clear in Psalm 139:14 "
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. If any is created left hand he should give glory to the Kings of Kings.

I have wondered about that.
Last Christmas, I was handing my dad something with my left hand and he refused to take it until I gave it with my right hand.
It shocked me.
I asked him why?
He just said, "We don't do that in my culture."
Nothing more.....so i was like "ok"

It's like you have been living a frustrated life all these years. You better liberate yourself this Independence day

This is the problem with religion and culture- "doing things because others/older people are doing it.

People should use their brains for themselves. When people use logic, they would not be supporting superstitious nonsense that the left hand is a sign of disrespect

Well, I think the right hand is naturally the dominant hand. Those who are left handed are few compared to the right handed people. The right hand in that sense is viewed as being significant. Even the Bible values the right hand more than the left hand despite the fact that they are both created in the image and likeness of God. Naturally, those who are right handed tend to use their right hand often than the other. Don't know if the status quo will change, but I don't think it's a major concern. Many people have gotten accustomed to it

Someone told me it's because we use our left hand to wash our anus after shiting. If not of time I would have asked her how she knew and maybe if with some powers she could watch anybody when they r shiting no matter the location. I also wanted to tell her ''but we wash our hands after that''. I wish I could ask her. Anyway, I see the reason she gave me as one meant for kids.

people were cautious not to receive things from someone who just cleaned his anus so the left hand was used for dirty jobs while the right hand was used for interaction
