Oil boom was able to spell doom on cocoa production because there were no indigenous cocoa processing companies in the country then, Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire overtook Nigeria in cocoa production because they have indigenous companies producing international standard products locally creating market for cocoa apart from exporting raw produce. Looking at plantain and banana industry in Nigeria today, with its huge potential and Nigeria being one of the highest producers in Africa, are we at par with international standard in terms of adding value to the crop and tapping its potential to the fullest?.
