I have heard many both online and offline saying that restructuring is not the way forward. then I ask, what is the way forward? "Anti-corruption crusade" they reply. How naive of them!

First of all, they fail to understand that corruption is the fruit of a skewed political and economic system or structure. corruption thrives only when given the right political and economic environment.

secondly, they fail to understand that corruption is not just about looting. it about prebendalism, nepotism, religious intolerance, economic sabotage, etc. Corruption is an ambiguous term.

thirdly, they fail to understand that corruption cannot be defeated with corruption. when you use corruption to fight corruption, you only justify the corruption confronted. you even embolden it. no party whether past or present is corruption-free whether APC, PDP, APGA, LABOUR, CPC, AD, etc.

Lastly, these unbelievers don't seem to know that corruption can never be completely defeated. it is everywhere even in advanced countries. it can only be suppressed to the barest minimum. so when you are fighting corruption, you are fighting forever without really winning.
however, that is not to say that corruption should not be fiercely tackled.

On these note, restructuring the faulty political and economic structure will allay fears of marginalization. marginalization breeds the inverse tendency to loot and what not because of the fear of not having access to the resources anymore. Restructuring also makes the component units more accountable to their constituencies whereby reducing the workload that makes the centre inefficient.

Moreso, the north is traditionally disposed to feudalism, while the west is traditionally disposed to constitutional mornachy. The east on the other hand is traditionally disposed more to consensual democracy. these traditional traits are still playing out today and its causing serious political friction in the country.

Restructuring is the way forward. the pre-war Nigeria of the sixties experienced healthy rivalry and fast progress because power was properly devolved for the component units to use and make economic gains. the centre only moderated.

Those elites against restructuring are scared of having to compete favorably for the national chinchin. Their followers are simply naive. let the process of restructuring begin before Nigeria gets worse. these "feeding bottle federalism and neo-unitary structure" we are practising today is ridiculous.
