so the government of lagos state launched (insert big party) a jobportal for residents but alas no single vacancy on the site

In a bid to be more proactive in dealing with the huge unemployment rates in the city, the Lagos state government launched a job registration website, www.jobcreation.lagosstate.gov.ng, on February 16, 2010. During the launch, Governor Babatunde Fashola said the initiative was aimed at tackling the high unemployment figures in the state.

“The website is another opportunity for youth who are still unemployed to become self-reliant by linking up to the free website for job registration,” said Mr. Fashola, who was represented by his deputy, Sarah Sosan, during the launch of the web portal at the Lagos State Auditorium, Ikeja.

“The new reality is that, this platform will encourage and promote government policy on public-private partnership programme (PPP) and also, serve as reference point for data collections and demographic study for our wealth creation programmes.”

Is it that there is no job in Lagos or the government cant be bothered to approach development partners/companies to list their vacant positions there?

Job portal in Lagos. This same Fashola's government that has rendered millions of innocent youths jobless and put them in penury. Examples:
1.demolished markets in Oshodi,Tejuosho, Oyingbo, Mushin, Alaba etc with displaced traders without alternative place to sell
2. The activities of LASAA-the agency for outdoor adverts that has driven thousands of people in advertising and related industry into joblessness
3. The activities of Lands and planning ministry that has made it expensive and combersome to start building projects and therefore rendered thousands jobless in the construction industry
4. The double taxation and aggressive tax drive that have imposed additional 5% tax on hotels and restaurants and additional tax burden on businesses in general in this period when banks and other companies are laying off workers. Fashola's policies are anti-business and many have taken flight out of Lagos

These and many others have worsened the unemployment situation in Lagos. Fashola's government should look into these rather than deceiving us with useless job portals that will get us no where.

Reading through the governor's comment properly would be better to understand the use of the website. It is primarily for unemployed youths to link up, exchange ideas on becoming self-reliant and further promote LASG's PPP.
A typical example is an unemployed building engineer, architect, accountant, etc coming together with a business plan on how to build quality low-cost housing units in Lagos in partnership with LASG.
