Vision 2020: Fg Embraces Lagos Blueprint by dplordx(m): 10:45am On Mar 08, 2010
For those haters who dont live in lagos, and dont know whats happening and keep bashing our beloved govnor you should realize that even the FG have embrace the plan of lagos because it is the only working plan in the whole country.if the opposite can swallow its pride and embrace brf plan it means this man is the best thing that has happened to nigeria in a very long time. so for the haters, please shut up and focus on your state or home town.

Federal Government has said it will adopt the blueprint of Lagos State Development Plan as part of its strategies to make Nigeria one of the top 20 world economies by 2020.

Minister of National Planning, Dr. Shamsudeen Usman, disclosed this at the weekend during a two-day meeting of delegates of South-West geopolitical zone to chart the strategies for the implementation plan of Nigeria Vision 20:20-20.Speaking at the meeting in Lagos, the minister said Lagos State Government is an embodiment of the possibility in realising the vision.

“Like Lagos, if we believe it is possible and we work towards it. It is doable. Within two years, Lagos has been transformed. The state development blueprint could be replicated by any state of the federation. There are plans for coordinating, monitoring and evaluating so as ensure that agreed plans are driven properly at all tiers of government. The hosting of the forum at all zones of the federation will allow benchmarking among them,” the minister said.

Both the federal and state governments identified effective coordination, monitoring and evaluation as fundamental strategies to realise to Vision 20: 20-20 designed to make Nigeria among top world economies by year 2020.

But Usman said the Federal Executive Council (FEC) would approve a department under the National Planning Commission to monitor and evaluate all projects scheduled for implementation in the Vision 2020 National Planning this week.
He said: “A memo has been sent to the FEC to that effect and was not discussed during the last FEC meeting because it was not listed due to late arrival.

“The proposal will be tabled and approved at the FEC meeting. The vision is about people. It is done to improve peoples’ wellbeing, productivity and general quality of lives,” the minister explained.
He said all states are expected to come up with a summary of their plan and proposal for implementation, which would be harmonized to form a detailed national plan.

The minister urged states that have difficulty in arriving at a plan to approach the commission to enable it to come out with a plan that would meet up with international standard.
In his address, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola expressed optimism, noting that though some “may doubt Nigeria Vision 20: 20-20, it was realizable.

He said partnership among states in the South-West zone in the country based on mutually benefitting arrangements would ensure that the vision is reached quickly.
He called for the formulation of policy that “can bring direct linkages in which identified goals can be added up to the overall strategies for realising Nigeria Vision 20: 20-20”.

So is this to say the FG Government to date does not have an existing blue print, for it to now have to be adopting the Lagos blue print after two years what a shame.

i would believe the 2020 vision would have been an all state encompassing approach, with all states being jointly aligned to the achievement of the Objective, it appears to me the FG does not really know what its doing.
The shame of it all is if they don't have a clue all they need to do is ask other countries how they have achieved such objectives.
