plantain and cucumber are two different crops requiring different kinds of driptapes. I have both types. One cannot be used for the other.

Let me break this down. Cucumber might be irrigated with 30cm factory pre-perforated driptape. But plantain is usually planted at 2 metres or 3ft aparts or thereabout, therefore since they are not of same planting spacing a different driptape will be used custom made at that spacing to put the water exactly at the root zone of the plantain. No water wastage of any kind.
