We are talking about sanctions from human rights abuses and not a deliberation for referendum, sir. These are two different things. Not sure the "US will always side Britain", sir. This is Trump's America, not Obama's, not Clinton's. Even Britain is not assured of Trump's support as regards BREXIT and certainly Trump did not support Britain in the Bombardier-Boeing current feud.
