Why Is It Difficult For Government To Fund Education? by Harlex(m): 12:11am On Oct 19, 2017
Is it really something difficult for government to fund the education sector? Most of the time we hear calls from both local and international communities on the needs for Africa countries to place optimum priority on Education, and we have also seen African leaders on various occasion admits to the fact that increase funding for Education is the only way to end all forms of vices that plaque Africa as a continent, such as terrorism, poverty, sickness, food insufficiency, etc. Then why is it so difficult to fund these sector?

Recently, the Nigeria senate called for increase funding for the education sector, but will that be possible when the legislature are not even ready to sacrifice the excessive cash that goes to them out of the nations resources. There’s no nation in the world where the government earns so little and pay so much to services the government like we have in Nigeria. If we service the government with amount enough to to grow the education system, then where are we suppose to get the needed resources to fund Education.

Even Mr President Buhari admit to have done nothing critical in the nations most sort after sector, and this is as a result of the fact that even the presidents could not trust the education system enough to train his children. Most of our elites result to overseas institution to trains their wards. Even those who have served as civil servant all their life find means to afford money to send their children overseas for sound education. These are some of the reason corruption continues to grow in strength even when we claim to be fighting it.

Universities in Ghana and Benin have now become preferred alternative for Nigerians who are bent on sending their children out of the country to study. Its a big Shame.

Our legislature should know that to change the fortune of the country’s Education system, there must be a sound legislature to that effect. Imagine having children of 469 legislature in Nigeria Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges, Secondary, Nursery and primary schools in Nigeria. Image if they also have to face the stress of not have chairs to sit in the class and having to bring one from home, Imagine having our legislature bring their children to school in bullet poof cars to a school building which have to roof, doors, windows or even electrification.

Same should also be applicable to the Executives arm of government. These people don’t know what these kids go through, schooling is like hell in Nigeria. We treat Education like we don’t want every Nigerian to have access to it.
