Bisi Fayemi has been selected as a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the African Leadership Centre in King’s College, London.

The college explained that the selection of the fellows was based on the relevance of their work to the school’s programme.

Bisi Fayemi is expected to give seminars, lectures and participate in ALC activities, as well as produce working papers and articles for publication.

Described as an activist, writer, social entrepreneur and policy advocate, Mrs Fayemi is presently the Principal Partner, Amandla Consulting, a firm that focuses on developing women leaders.

Besides running an online community, Abovewhispers.com, she also performs her duty as a UN Women Nigeria Senior Consultant.

She has trained over 6,000 African women leaders through the African Women’s Leadership Institute she founded while serving as the Director of Akina Mama wa Afrika, an international development organisation for London-based, African women.

She also co-founded the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF) – the first Africa-wide grant-making foundation for women, where she served as its first Executive Director for nine years.

She has devised and executed policy, advocacy, grassroots empowerment and social inclusion programs across many African countries. She has also led campaigns to successfully pass legislation to promote and protect women’s rights.

She is the author of Speaking for Myself: Perspectives on Social, Political and Feminist Activism in Africa (2013), Speaking above a Whisper, (2013) an autobiography, and Loud Whispers (2017). She is also co-editor (with Jessica Horn) of Voice, Power and Soul (2008), a compilation of images and stories of African Feminists.
