U.s. Lauds Fg On Uwais Committee Report by nelsonose: 10:45am On Mar 18, 2010
The United States of America (U.S.A) on Tuesday commended the Federal Government for its decision to transmit the full, unedited Justice Mohammed Uwais Electoral Reform Committee report to the National Assembly.

A statement from the country’s Embassy in Abuja said that the action demonstrated government's willingness to work toward holding more transparent elections.

“We applaud this bold action to send the unedited report to the National Assembly, which demonstrates Nigeria's willingness to work toward holding more transparent elections,'' it said.

The statement said that the National Assembly now had the opportunity to consider a wider range of potential reforms recommended by the Committee.

It expressed the hope that the assembly would deliberate and move forward quickly on ``the passage of important electoral reforms so that key steps could be taken toward holding credible elections in Nigeria in 2011”.

“We encourage the Nigerian Government to continue in this positive direction.

“As a friend and partner of Nigeria, the U.S. will continue to work with the people and Government of Nigeria to strengthen and enrich democratic institutions in Nigeria, particularly regarding election reform.

“U.S. stands ready to support the Nigerian Government and the people of Nigeria in achieving free and fair national elections in 2011,'' it added.

The Justice Uwais’ committee had recommended that the National Judicial Commission should shortlist three persons for consideration to the National Council of State for appointment as INEC chairman.

The Council of State is to select one of the candidates and send the name to the Senate for confirmation as INEC chairman, but the government rejected the recommendation.

It would also be recalled that following the rejection, individuals, groups and organisations who felt that it was a wrong decision, advised the government to reconsider the committee’s recommendation, especially on the appointment of INEC chairman.

Uwais report was a fraud report written by the nigeria govt.  The nigeria govt wrote the script of the report. The issue in Nigeria is not electoral reform. The issue in nigeria is structure reform.

Nigeria knows how to conduct credible election. Ask any nigerian. The issue is rigging the result of the election. So Uwais report is of no good to nigeria because we already know how to conduct election.  electoral reform is irrelevant to nigeria, but they rig the election result. so what good is it. pointless.  the only issue is the appointment of inec charmain should be by the national assembly.  Most of this people written online are 20 years old. they do not know much about nigeria and some have never been to nigeria before.

Without structural adjustment there would never be peace in nigeria.   There would be bloodly war  if we do not have structural adjustment.   What the  libya president is saying is true to a point. Honest nigerian would agree with him. We all know how uncreditable nairaland have become. edit post and poll.  But the truth is apart from greedy politician who are so desperate to hold on to thier position , we are risking the lifes of million, just because some people are too greedy.

Now I think Nigeria should raise up and save thier own lifes from this greedy people. If is your life and family, who would be in the civil war. most of this people already have private jet parked at the airport to run.

I think lack of understand of Nigeria but some people may cause the lifes of millions to be wasted. The north would never agree to the satellite pictures.  They already  hate america. And I believe supporting structural reform is the only solution.

No group or ethnics can be force to conform to electoral reform, when they say NO.  And the north have clearly said No and they prefer structural reform . Gaddafi  knows the north and even when the west see him as a bad man. This time around. I have to agree, he is speaking the truth. Gaddafi is a friend to the powerful power block in the north.  He knows what they want. If we fail to have structural reform, we would see more than 5 africa countries involve in this civil war.

While the Yorubas are in several countries, the fulani/hausa are also in several countries. Ethnics loyalty goes beyoud country. We see our ethnics group in Africa as our country. Not the nation call nigeria. The USA would only create more hate for itsself from the north, even among yorubas. Structural reform is the only solution. Nigeria politician are not honest. Their position matter to them more than the lifes of the people. they dont care for the people. So as far as they are considered, They can kill all of them for all they care. They are heartless men. see the way they kill themself for position.

The north would never agree to electoral reform , only structural reform, and noone can force electoral reform on the north it would only lead to a civil war. Ethnics loyalty and ethnics honour killing is alive in Africa.
