That's right. Nigerians did not understand his intention, they killed him whereas that unification was what nigeria needed so everyone could be under same laws rigidly enforced thereby silencing tribalism, regionalism, nepotism which are the real enemies of nigeria's progress today. cool

All academic principles and experiences all over the world had already showed that an experimentation with unitary system in a multi-ethnic society always ended in a failed state status characterized by daily bloodshed, mountainous corruption at the center, inter-tribal armed rivalry, mutual suspicion across tribes, intense inter tribal hatred, the springing up of ethnic militias, etc. Even in Secondary Schools Government textbooks it is written that unitary system does not work in a heterogeneous country. Ironsi passed through at least secondary school. What kind of good intention could make him take a decision which he learnt in school would be catastrophic on the long run? Is the knowledge gained from school not meant to be practically applied in solving societal problems? Ironsi had no good intentions but a hidden agenda to impose Igbo hegemony on the other Nigerian tribes.
