The next state that should enact and implement this law ASAP is Plateau State, they've suffered the most in the hands of the murderous herdsmen. I want to see how FG will react to this development, when the herdsmen went on rampage all over nothing was done up till now to stop them. Now people are taking their destinies in their hands, and some criminals are crying foul. With all the abundance of uncultivated lands in this country, herdsmen choose only to lead their herds into farms that people sweated to cultivate with their hard earned resources, time, energy and what have you. When the farmers try to stop them or send the cattle out of their farms the herdsmen butcher, massacre and wipe them out.

The truth still remain that if herdsmen will only feed their flocks on uncultivated lands alone, no farmer will ever mind them.
In fact no one should make available any land free for them to Ranch, if they desire any portion of land they should meet the owners of the land, negotiate and agree before it is sold to them for ranching. This is the only way they'll appreciate the land and take proper care of it to maximize its benefit.
Our mumu don do with killer herdsmen abeg, you will never hear Miyetti Allah make statements when herdsmen are on rampage butchering innocent people but you will hear their kakaki when people take measures to defend themselves.

Bravo to your intelligence

Nobody is restricting fulanis movement in the state, but to stop the open grazing which is illegal and even criminal. They should go buy land to rear their cows, no law permits animals to invade people's lands or farms in Nigeria.

Oga, in Benue state, it's not only the Fulani people that rear cattle. A good number of indigenes are involved in this too. Moreover, the law was not addressed to a sect within the state but to everybody. So where has descrimination come in here?
Secondly, the law did not prohibit open grazing by cattle only, even goats are included. We know the fulani people for cattles, how about the goats by the Benue people?

The law is absurd?

In how many serious countries of the world do you see cows on roads and people's farms? Tell me.

So why should Nigeria's cows be different? Why is Nigeria so backward? Do you know they also have and rear cows (for meat and milk) in Germany, Ireland, Sweden, etc?

The law is very constututional. It doesn't single out people based on ethnicity or religion. It simply says what applies to poultry farmers or goat farmers should apply to cow farmers. Shikena

The Nigerian Constitution guarantees freedom of movement of human beings and not ANIMALS, except you are telling us Fulanis are ANIMALS.

Show us the part of the constitution that guarantees movement of Animals.

The state has the right to enact law that will improve the lives of her people and not of migrants, fulanis herdsmen inclusive. If you want to graze, unrestricted, pleae your herdsmen should restrict your cattle to Kano Katsina Sokoto and part of Kaduna.

One Fulani sighted! After Buhari spent millions to import grass and his failed agenda of grazing reserves....

They can challenge all they want.

If you have a good lawyer he will explain to you that the constitution only guarantees freedom of HUMAN movement and not cow movement. You want you cow to share our human right of free movement but you don't mind eating crops in people's farms and killing the farmer in the process.

Same set of people that were declared terrorists by the UN
You don't mind allowing Fulani herdsmen to carry AK47 guns when the Nigerian constitution prohibits such. Intact the army and police also protect you each time you kill indegenous farm owners and in your mind you think you are wise. You also think the Supreme Court judges will support your warped thinking. Continue. You can also take it to UN and hague

I don't blame you. When you relate too much with a cow, you are likely to start reasoning like one.
Do you know the law more than UK or US where it is a completely strange and unheard of to graze cows on the street?

Infact I feel like dividing this country into north and South So that those who want to be backwards can feel free to go back to the stone age.

NaijaEfcc:
Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has called on Federal Government, National Assembly (NASS) and international community to intervene in the Anti-Open Grazing Law operating in Benue.

The Chairman of the association, Danladi Ciroma, made the call on Sunday at a news conference in Lafia.

He said the law was implemented without due consultation with herdsmen in the state.

He added that “our people were not educated on modern method of rearing cattle so that when provision for ranching was being made, government would take into consideration the total number of cattle in the state.

“Due to lack of consultation, our people lack the technical know-how to conduct cattle ranching because even if we accept to practice it, we lack the needed expertise.

“We do not know the grass we need to grow and how it is grown, where to get it and how to preserve it for the cattle.”

He explained that countries like Kenya that successfully implemented ranching system spent more than five years educating herdsmen and provided the much-needed facilities before it was implemented.

Ciroma said apart from those who were the direct beneficiaries of ranches, animal health experts needed to be trained, while clinics and abattoirs, among other things, were supposed to be provided.

He added that the state did not take any step before enacting the law .

The zonal chairman, therefore, appealed to Federal Government, NASS and the international community to urgently prevail on the state government to reconsider the law for peace and unity in the area.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the association in Nasarawa State, Malam Mohammed Hussaini, said
the implementation of the law in Benue led to influx of herdsmen and their cattle to Nasarawa, noting that the situation should be checked to avert conflicts between herdsmen and farmers.

Hussaini explained that the influx of cattle to Nasarawa had led to destruction of many
farm produce and appealed to relevant authorities to intervene to check any crisis in border towns.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Nasarawa, Idrisu Kennedy, however, gave
the assurance that measures were being taken to avert any incident.

The PPRO explained that the efforts of the police and other security agencies, as well as that of the state government and traditional rulers were geared toward averting breakdown of law and order in the state.

Newsmen report that the chairman of association in Benue and other herdsmen from North Central states attended the news conference.

The Benue Government had enacted an anti-open grazing law and fixed Nov. 1, 2017 as date to commence its implementation.

The state government stated that the law was in line with Section 4(7)(a) of the Constitution, Section 1 of the Land Use Act Chapter 202 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990.

The Section states that all land comprised in the territory of each state in the federation are vested in the governor of that state and such land shall be held in trust and administered for the use and common benefit of all Nigerians in accordance with the provisions of the Act.

To this end, Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue said it was in the spirit and letters of those enabling laws of the land that the Open Grazing (Prohibition) and Establishment of Ranches Law, 2017 was proposed and was judiciously enacted by Benue State House of Assembly.

Please, I call on Southeast governors to emulate what Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue just did for his people and if the so-called Myetti Allah want open grazing I suggest sambisa forest is an alternative.

My brother, that is the best decision Benue state will ever make....This menace of fulani herdsman killing and wanton destruction is nothing but Jihad! It has been planned for long...Sambisa forest is large enough to rear as many cow as they want, but no they wouldn't go there..The size of Borno alone is about twice the entire south east with so many land wasting.yet they will not use that?? perhaps it is not a must to eat meat..egg,
chicken and fish are cheaper and better alternative...All state in the south and Jos should promulgate this anti open grazing law already.. Failure to do so simply leaves you open to Jihad and starvation...And that is the end game.

Are Fulani's the only ones rearing animals?
Have they asked Fulani people to pack out of Benue?
Or asked them not to move around town?
Or you naturally assume all Fulanis are cattle rearers? I'm sure there are Fulanis of various professions in Benue who go about their normal daily activity such as Drs, traders, artisans etc
The law is clear, no one is above the law. The animals have become a nuisance to hard working farmers, destroying livelihoods, causing accidents on the highway and just being public nuisances.

Only a constitution amendment can work. The herdsmen shot themselves in the foot by not regulating themselves thinking they were above the law. Simply because a fellow Fulani was ruling. Sad
