Trap music originated from Southern United States far back as 1990, it is a sub-genre of hip-hop characterized with triple time sub divided hi-hats with ominous and gritty lyrics. The sound is basically heavy kick drums from Roland TR-808. Trap was first introduced into music by the likes of Ghetto Mafia,Master P among others.

As the world evolves, the baton of trap music is passed to famous young artiste like Future, Migos, 2Chainz and many more but these artiste are international artistes, so this brought the question "do Nigeria artistes have no say when it comes to trap music"? As a music fan in Nigeria you must have heard the popular and "trappy" track titled Sumi by Ycee.

Ycee who rose into limelight after one of his singles titled "Condo" is a talented Nigerian artiste who is known for his trap style of music and has gained him popularity doing the trap music. We won't do well when we discuss trap in Nigeria without mentioning another talented superstar who goes by the stage name Dremo
