oyb: Stop reading the front page of the news lol ! I have never experienced those things in my life. But I can call anyone home that has been a victim of armed robbery |

dayokanu: Well thank God you said 2007/early 2008, but that has reduced drastically because when you come to lag now, you'd think UN peacekeepers are stationed here with the kind of police heavy duty van parked at various hotspots. (we still have series of minor robberies, but not anything major again). I have never been robbed except once (in a supermarket by 2 stupid young boys operating with 1 piston), they almost got caught but they were lucky to have escaped, just got my e71 for $430 then (2008 August), and i was having 3k in my wallet, they only took the money and i didn't release the phone. other than that, never been robbed nor none of my family/relatives. |

but you have bank robberies, not so bank robberies in US can never be on the same scale as in Nigeria. Specifically in 2006. I was working in a bank in Nigeria. All banks in Aba were closed for like a week because of robbers. I havent heard of that here sha. Last yr the same scourge came to Ibadan. In 2008 while I was in Bonny Island, all banks couldnt open because of robber until they deplyed the Nigerian Army. This was around June 2008. you have snipersLike Agberos or Oryza's, One chance and co you have hostage takers You mean the kidnappers of Soludos father, Nkem Owoh, Pete Edochie, even 4 yr old kids we have in Nigeria you have fellas like the unabomber I dont understand this |

dayokanu: yes, but bank robberies and kidnapping are recent phenomena in nigeria's crime landscape they have been staples of the us since forever - strange that you're equating snipers with area boys u no sabi ted kacyzinki abi how dem call am? |
Re: Why Do Some Nairalanders Have A Serious Bias Against Those Of Us Overseas ? by Nobody: 4:54pm On Mar 23, 2010 |
If not for poverty . . . the crime rate in Nigeria would be much closer to zero. We dont have crazy gun-totting kids in schools. |

platinumnk: Ebay can never feed me, that yeye site, you have to stay 1 week to sell one item, if not, the % ebay'll get from you is going to more than what you'd make as profit on it except you wait for a least 1 week for the highest bidder. and you might only sell 1 item for 1 week or even 2 weeks. dayokanu: Maybe other part of the country, but not Lagos or Abuja, i mean, not now, you can't robe a bank successful in Lagos as at now except it's an inside job. 2006 is 4 years ago bro, alot of water has passed under the bridge. |

spikedcylinder: See this girl oh. . . .what is 'oh lordy' about that? Haven't you head of 'ori olori' before? Why are passports such a hot commodity to be stolen if not for the fact that identity theft and impersonation are profitable ventures? Y'all should leave the guy worried about his Rolex and iPod. . . .only heaven knows how many toilets and diapers he changed for years to afford those things. THe guy has a right to be worried so his efforts won't be in vain. @ DK For every unabomber you have ND militants bombing like happened in Warri last week. Honestly guys - till we face up to the reality of how bad things are in Nigeria and stop excusing them by saying 'you have something similar abroad' then we will not progress. |

davidylan: actually I think you are wrong, it is because of poverty that people are able to focus on other things than killing their mates. These people in America sha, need to step out their country for one month, I promise the school killings will stop. davidylan: ohhhhhh ok I remember. thx |

platinumnk: Why are you being chased around by robbers? are you sure you don't have something that belongs to them? even in the village, robbers chase you in that small village of yours eh? |

Well thank God you said 2007/early 2008, but that has reduced drastically because when you come to lag now, you'd think UN peacekeepers are stationed here with the kind of police heavy duty van parked at various hotspots. (we still have series of minor robberies, but not anything major again). Well thats refreshing to know. Well I still have to confirm sha. Cos my friend TKB 417 has been robbed at least 3 times in the last 9months and badly beaten as well I have never been robbed except once (in a supermarket by 2 silly young boys operating with 1 piston), they almost got caught but they were lucky to have escaped, just got my e71 for $430 then (2008 August), and i was having 3k in my wallet, they only took the money and i didn't release the phone. other than that, never been robbed nor none of my family/relatives. I lived in Chicago and in Houston been to several cities too. I have never been robbed though I have a friend whose car was "Joy-ridden" in West Chicago one of the most dangerous places in the US thats about it. |

honeric01:yeah i have moneyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy honeric01: Again it depends on what you're selling, None of my stuff I had to relist How are you able to use ebay, I thought it was banned? dayokanu: My poor friend |
Re: Why Do Some Nairalanders Have A Serious Bias Against Those Of Us Overseas ? by Nobody: 5:03pm On Mar 23, 2010 |
platinumnk: That is absolutely not true. I doubt you lived for any extended period in Nigeria especially the 80s. In the early 70s and 80s you could leave your house unlocked and still come back and meet your stuff there. How many times do you hear of armed robberies in the hinterlands? I've been to my father and mother's villages . . . there is no fence, no gate . . . nothing and yet we sleep with 2 eyes closed. Armed robbery, kidnappings and ritual killings are squarely due to increased rate of poverty. |

platinumnk: How's he wrong? if not for poverty, our crime rate won't be a s high as we had it before and also the love of material things is adding to the desperation. |

davidylan: Im a baby- I was born in the 80s, and you didnt live in the 80s Back then I know how it wa, but we didnt have the things we have now hon Your village is quiet now, wait till you start building honeric01: I know you guys cant see it, but I had a serious discussion about this before. If you take away the basics from an average American, the School killings will cease. One thing I dont like about the US that besides the ethnic communties, majority is very individualistic. When your stomach is growling from hunger, are you to think about killing your school mate? |

Cos my friend TKB 417 has been robbed at least 3 times in the last 9months and badly beaten as well with all that night crawling with hot chicks i no dey surprised Your village is quiet now, wait till you start building all impression plat has formed abt naija are based on that her hamlet in owerri |
Re: Why Do Some Nairalanders Have A Serious Bias Against Those Of Us Overseas ? by dayokanu(m): 5:10pm On Mar 23, 2010 |
yes, but bank robberies and kidnapping are recent phenomena in nigeria's crime landscape Lawrence Anini became a legend in Nigeria in 1986 robbing banks when I was still rolling tyres clad only in boxers around Dopemu strange that you're equating snipers with area boys Snipers and "one chance" whats the difference, ritual killers nko? Honestly guys - till we face up to the reality of how bad things are in Nigeria and stop excusing them by saying 'you have something similar abroad' then we will not progress. Exactly, Trying to hide under the "You have something similar there" wont help us at all. You can tell that to someone who didnt live or work in Nigeria before. In February 2006 My friend went to write a First Bank job aptitude test at UNILAG and they were dispersed by tear gas. If you see the number of people there? I have seen venues of job tests and I see the army of unemployed youths. they are talking about recession in US but it can NEVER be on the same level as I saw at some aptitude test in Nigeria. You say ppl can do business in Nigeria, I have a friend who does LEGIT biz in the US and make over 10k a month. I have another who made over $1million between 2006-2007 doing real estate. He is coming to Naija now to contest for House of Rep. Both are still under 30yrs If there are 2 LEGIT opportunities in Nigeria I bet you have 50 in the west |
Re: Why Do Some Nairalanders Have A Serious Bias Against Those Of Us Overseas ? by Nobody: 5:11pm On Mar 23, 2010 |
platinumnk: Absurd. Nigeria was a far better economy in the 80s and as at 1983 N1 = $2. We had everything we have today and more, we had food, great jobs (most of our parents had job offers before they graduated), school scholarships, free education . . . what are you talking about? I did live in the 80s and there are mansions in my mom's village . . . i've been in some of them. |

dayokanu: Confirm from him about what i said of the police bulldozer looking vans across Lagos. platinumnk: lol, you have money, that's why robbers are chasing you? do you wear money? do you hang dollars on your windscreen? are you teeth in diamonds? do you carry loudspeakers around yelling "i have money oo"? how come others with money have hardly been attacked by robbers? there are series or rich people in Nigeria without escort that has never witnessed robbery in their lifetime. I don't sell anything on Ebay, God forbids!, eBay cannot feed me, so why should i sell anything on eBay? i am only talking based on a friend (US) i had that normally sell on eBay, she had to pack up after not making enough to even pay eBay |
Re: Why Do Some Nairalanders Have A Serious Bias Against Those Of Us Overseas ? by platinumnk(f): 5:15pm On Mar 23, 2010 |
davidylan: It was a better economy compared to what? Did we have the things we had back then? food, jobs, <- this has been here way before the 80s David you arent that much older than me, Stats show our memory doesnt go past the age of 10 |

with all that night crawling with hot chicks i no dey surprised Why cant you Night crawl. I can wake up here and decide to go out at 2am without fearing nothing That is absolutely not true. Though I agree the rise in poverty is a factor but the Aninis, Oyenusis, Osunbors became legends in the 80's But if you agree that poverty is more prevalent in Nigeria, How come ppl are painting a picture that hardly is in Nigeria for us. Like 80% of graduates cant get jobs, Most that got were laid off. I know about 5 friends who lost jobs at Banks in the last 3 months in Naija |

honeric01: Unless you plan to live on the internet, then ebay shouldnt feed you lol Robbers are chasing me lol. Please dont puton a front. I can list the many people affected by armed robberies and kidnapping. My friend in Dallas lost his mother to Kidnapping last month. honeric01: Just testing your theory dayokanu: abi oo, If i want to go to Walmart, I go lol in 9ja they say you be whinch or prostistute |

platinumnk: The strength of the naira is enough to tell you how strong our economy was back then. We had a foreign reserve of close to $3bn. Why was crime so low then? platinumnk: Even if the gap is 2 months . . . ure still obliged to call me uncle David. |

David you arent that much older than me, Stats show our memory doesnt go past the age of 10 I disagree with this. I remeber Canada 87, Maroc 1988 and Seoul 1988 vividly and I wasnt born in 1977 I even remember having a crush on a girl in Elementary school and on my teacher Miss Mireku |

I can do the same in naija. David On a serious note, You better dont try this regardless of the area. Almost everywhere in Nigeria is closed at night only Police and robbers are out |
