Governor Shettima Releases N100m For School Feeding Programme In Borno by Ebisco015: 9:12pm On Nov 08, 2017
Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima has inaugurated a 17-member committee to feed 30,961 students in 56 boarding secondary schools across the state.

The Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Musa Inuwa Kubo, is to head the feeding panel, with a monthly takeoff grant of N100 million.

Inaugurating the committee on Wednesday at the Government House, Maiduguri, Shettima said the challenges before the committee members was to overcome the problems of feeding students in boarding schools.

He said the committee was equal to the task, as its members were appointed on their “integrity and commitments” to serve humanity at all levels.

“I charge all of you to be transparent and accountable to raise the quality and feeding standards in boarding schools, so that students could excel in their West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) Examinations,” he said.

He said that the principals of boarding schools should pay the salaries of cooks regularly, with the employment of security personnel to protect students’ lives while studying in schools.

He said besides the N100 million takeoff grants, 500 bags of rice have been released to the committee to immediately commence the feeding programme.

Kubo while appreciating the Governor for the trust bestowed on committee members, said the challenges of feeding will be overcome with higher performances.

He said that the projected student population to be fed by the committee stood at 32,000.
