I wonder what people consider as racism undecided

So because Police hasn't stopped you indiscriminately on the road or nobody has called you niggaa, that makes most Russians nice and friendly, and not racist..

Lol, anyway you talk say u new for town.
I ain't wishing you ill luck or anything bad, sincerely I pray for you for succeed without any problems.

Have you heard of institutional racism wink
If you're expecting any Russian to Racially abuse you physically , you may not easily get that.

To me, institutional racism is the worst kind of Racism, and Russia is amongst the top countries that practices it.

Every country practices it. It is very common in the UK, US, Australia and Canada too. As racists go underground in these countries due to popularism of liberal ideology, they now use what they have power over, i.e their institution to suppress everyone except caucasians.
So whether you go to Russia or Australia or Canada, not much is going to change.

In class right now. I really hate morning classes because the metro is usually crowded in the morning. The Moscow metro is the most beautiful and efficient subway system I’ve seen but, it can be a nightmare in the morning around 8-9am when everyone is trying to go to work.

Living in Russia is hard, jobs are not readily available so you really need to have a backup plan if you are planning to study here. The education system works, Russians are not lazy and they don’t expect less from you, so you have to work really hard and be serious if you want to succeed here. One thing is certain, as long as you really came here with the intention to study, you’re going to get good quality education.

Russians are the most disciplined and hard working people I Know. Nobody waits to be told to do the right thing, you just do the right thing. It’s ironic but ‘I’m sorry’ is seen as impolite here in Russia because people expect you to do the right thing and have nothing to be sorry about in the first place.

I have a combined 6 hours class today so see you guys later.

Can you cite examples of the right things to do that's expected of one in Russia?

Russia is not on my "bucket list" of places to ever visit....for several reasons.
Praying for your safe keeping and wonderful experiences there.

Reasons like? If you don't mind.

Yesterday was really fun, B took me to red square and we had lots of fun, exploring and visiting various museums around the square. Red square is one of the most iconic place Russia and thousands of visitors go to red square every day.
It was -9 degrees yesterday and at some point when I was taking pictures of the square,my hand got so cold and I wasn't able to click the shutter again.
For more than 3 minutes I could not feel my hands anymore and I literary felt like my hands were amputated.

Asides the freezing cold, yesterday was a really memorable and magical day, B is such a darling and we spent the whole evening holding hands and playing in the square. She doesn't speak English yet so communication is still a bit difficult for us cos some times I run out of words, my Russian is still basic but thank God for google and yandex translators.

I must admit I always feel a bit shy whenever we are walking in the streets together but she doesn't really mind and is always playing and holding me and I think I'm slowly getting used to not caring about all the eyes staring at us whenever we are taking a walk.

Bro, Next time make sure you protect your neck seriously. Cold get stored in the body and the repercussion is gross. Your neck, feet and waist should be the most protected. I am a private Ph.D student in St.petersburg.

I love your diary.

I read where you said you dont have a winter shoe, Please find a way to mail me and we will pick it up from there.

I give you guys a lot of credit. I definitely won't wanna live in Moscow. Lots of racism in that part of the world. You think there's racism in America, wait until you go to Russia. And moreover, Russia is just too cold for me ... way too cold!

The average winter temperature in Moscow, Russia is -7°C (15°F). *Phew* That one got me shivering already grin
And make sure you're taking your daily Vitamin D tablets as well.

O pari

The racism is not rampant as speculated. I have lived in Russia for 8 years + and i can tell you confidently that i have never experienced any racial abuse. I am not saying its totally eradicated but trust me, its never as assumed by novice. I commune everyday on the street, at the airports, train stations etc. There are instances you talk to Russians on the street and they will never respond but its 1 outta 50. They have their challenges and minuses but then lotta them are kind hearted.

see mumu question o

Feeding depends on how to you wanna come about it. Cook yourselves or eat out? Its always economical to cook. Foods also at the restaurants are not so cheap, it depends on city, the restaurants and location of the restaurant.

Its not cheap to shop here, Trust me.. But you will find everything on earth to shop. Moscow and St.Petersburg are some of the costliest cities to live in Europe.. Russia is an expensive country people dont know about.

Enjoy your stay when you visit.

I will be lying to you if I told you that you won't encounter racism or other form of discrimination in Russia.

But the truth is that it's mostly on the ground of ignorance, communication gap and disregard for the laws and culture of the land by migrants.

Racism mostly occur in environments where migrants and even indigenes arrogantly or ignorantly refuse to assimilate into the culture of the host.

Black Americans are largely discriminated against after years of being in the country because they've refused to collapse of their cultures into the American national lifestyle. Even White southerners are mostly being discriminated against for this same reason.

Most Asians have a terrible case of isolating themselves in their own home, how much more in a foreign country. Americans may tolerate these but a typical European who grew up with the teachings of jante's law will not take this attitude, hence the discrimination. I've been opportuned to live in the same environment with North Koreans, bro, you can play football, table tennis and do other things with them for 1year without them saying hello to you. That's an extreme case sha.

Most Africans have a terrible case of lying, cutting corners, being loud and trying to outsmart the system. And an European will not take this, hence the discrimination.

Europeans have their own issues, but we are talking about how they perceive migrants.

That being said, if you are honest and at the top of your game (as a student or worker), you will attract friends and will hardly be discriminated against.

Characteristics of a typical Russian guy is no different from that of President Putin. Stern looking, unfriendly and hardly apologetic. He attacks you first if your movement suggests you may attack him. I think there's a subject in primary school that teaches them these. But they are very kind, friendly and willing to help if their interest is not threatened. Communication/language solves this for the most part.

Their ladies have similar attitude. Very resilient, unapologetic, honest and unafraid. They apply these in everything they do. Even in relationships. That's why when a Russian lady decides to go out with you, be sure to get a great deal of loyalty and attention. They go all the way.
Aside from my mom and my Russian ex, I've never met any girl who was unnecessarily forgiving, kept my secrets and could go a whole ten yards for me. They make bonny and Clyde look unserious. That's why they make the most loyal spies to walk the earth.

Problem they are having with these migrants is that the migrants tend to abandon them for prettier and more financially stable girls. Worst so, the migrants leave unceremoniously after graduation.

Less I forget, both their young men and women can drink for the world in a galaxy competition. Funny thing is they hardly get drunk, especially their girls. That's why I always laugh so hard when I see British and american girls fall over and begin to do stupid things after taking half pint of light beer. Lol.

Like someone rightly advised, thread softly in the department of love because the beautiful and rich once may just be on their way. No even try Siberia. Cos na there you go know say supermodels like Kate Moss and Sofia no even fine as models.

All in all, have fun. Good and bad peoplepeople are abound in every corner of the earth.

Apt!

At least you get the point I'm trying to make.
BTW, I didn't say Institutional racism doesn't exist in other countries, I'm just saying it is higher in Russia.

Eastern European countries are mostly racist, the only country that may come close from your list will be Australia.
Australia has a large population of racist scums, I believe that there are more racist (institutional racism inclusive) in Australia, than any other English speaking Country. (age and population standardization properly adjusted for)

I just want the OP to be aware of this fact, and be guided properly. Because sometimes "people of color" get too comfortable in this Countries, thinking everybody likes them grin

If you like smile, laugh and joke with this oyibo people for 90 years, any day you fvck up, them go remind you say you be immigrant

Congratulations Op,
Ideally,The advice would be to refrain from romantic entanglements until you get your bearing.
You need to focus very well to be able to excel..A relationship at this very early phase may derail you because in terms of any plans now you’ll start thinking ‘we’ instead of I and start compromising in terms of things that would benefit you if you were alone.
Even common argument, you won’t be able to read or concentrate.
You are quite young now and you need to buckle down and make your mark..this is your chance.
I appreciate that you are lonely and the weather is cold ,try and network with other responsible Nigerians / immigrants/ people with exposure who will show you the way and how best to make use of this opportunity.
A lady you pick now you are still fresh off the boat may not be the lady you would pick like 1 year down the line when you are absolutely self aware and settled because by then you would also be considering that you would want a partner who shares common goals with you,has a career ,you would also know the peculiarities of the culture that you’ve just landed in then also get to meet more people.

However, this may be fate I don’t know..I wish you the best and will look out for your pictures.

The outfit you gave her is lovely good luck
dont mind d idiot village boy

Hello @TochiPhotos my namesake, I'm really excited to see what has become of you.
Ever since you bailed out on us (your ardent followers) in Humans of Lagos........lol, i have been wondering every now and then whatever happened to you. I remember you mentioned having a challenge then, but you never got back. I even sent you a mail but no response. Congratulations on this new feat and phase of your life and may you keep soaring.

Please i have a question because i'm making an enquiry for a friend's son. You stated that the fees at HSE is between $2000 - $4000, but what i'm seeing in the website is way higher; 390,000 Rub ($60000+) and more. Please is there something the website is not telling us or has the fees been increased? It also appears HSE do not offer Engineering courses?

Brother.... This is 2018..Things have change in ukraine and Russia.. ..people are now getting used to the idea of people.being black.... I.entered ukraine 2006'.. then racism was at high alert even ur school.will tell u to be careful.. black are attacked everyday then... but as of now it has reduced drastically.. cos most of.their girls now are married to black girl and where by they have molat... imagine the number of molat in.Moscow and Kiev.... so black are now seeing as human too... but bro.. don't conclude yet that they they are not racist..Just pray u don't get attacked ......Maskali... spaciba.
